Bush's acceptance of blame does not close book on flawed Iraq intelligence
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1504&ncid=1504&e=12&u=/afp/20030731/ts_afp/us_iraq_weapons_030731225705

WASHINGTON (AFP) - President George W. Bush was right to accept blame for using flawed intelligence on Iraq, US lawmakers said, while insisting on greater White House accountability in the global war on terrorism.

At a White House Rose Garden press conference Wednesday, the president took the blame for his use of a now-discredited claim that Iraq sought uranium for nuclear weapons in Africa.

"I take personal responsibility for everything I say, of course. Absolutely," Bush said, after weeks of evading blame for inserting the 16-word reference into his January State of the Union address.

Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota said the admission was "worthwhile" but late in coming.

1. NEWS FLASH!! new OBL video
a video tape just received at al-Jazeera shows Osama bin Laden taking "personal responsibility" for the 9-11 attacks, stating that although one of his aides had approved the operation without his knowledge, it was still "a mistake" that should not have happened.

``Are we perfect? Jeepers, no - only Allah is perfect. Do accidents happen in a worldwide organization of this size and complexity? Gosh, yes. Is it time to move on? Absolutely.''

2. raises more questions
What else was in the SOTU that was a "mistake"?

Does this count as an admission that he lied?

Doesn't this "admission" imply that the premise for invading Iraq was false and therefore our troops, and Iraqi citizens died over lies?

When AWOL returns from "vacation" and decides to invade another country - will the American public believe him when he starts wagging the WMD sabers?

3. The story still breathes
Make sure to rate it. Here it is: a topical, hysterical Monty Python themed flash animation:

As you laugh your a8 off, consider this: it was made waay before the media discovered 'the 16 words" and I'm pretty sure, before the SOTU as well.

4. I really hate spineless Dems! When will one stand up and say the CIA
Edited on Fri Aug-01-03 09:19 AM by dArKeR
made the false reports because Bush wanted to go to war. Who has the link of the Newsweek story in which Bush said, about 4 months into office, 'Fuck Saddam we're taking him out'. Why do the Dems. let the GOP and GOP Whore Media confuse the point with these spin games?

I can't find the link, it was Time or Newsweek story about 5 months ago. It said Rice was in her office with 3 Senators when Bush walked by stuck his head in the door and said, 'Fuck Saddam, we're taking him out.' Why isn't/wasn't this news on Me The Press or a Woodward Whore article or a Fineman Whore article?

Two months ago, a group of Republican and Democratic Senators went to the White House to meet with Condoleezza Rice, the President's National Security Adviser. Bush was not scheduled to attend but poked his head in anyway--and soon turned the discussion to Iraq. The President has strong feelings about Saddam Hussein (you might too if the man had tried to assassinate your father, which Saddam attempted to do when former President George Bush visited Kuwait in 1993) and did not try to hide them.

(Is the same source of the assassination on Papa the same source as WMD?)

As he marched the nation to war, Bush presented himself as a Christian man of peace who saw war only as a last resort. But in a remarkable though little noted disclosure, Time magazine reported that in March 2002 – a full year before the invasion – Bush outlined his real thinking to three U.S. senators, “Fuck Saddam,” Bush said. “We’re taking him out.”

5. They aren't spineless, they're just playing "good cop" to...
...the Bush Regime's "bad cop." They string us along, but they really aren't there to help us out anymore.

I really believe the good cop-bad cop theory. Cheney is the ultimate Regime bad cop. When the Regime really wants something, they send Cheney out to Timmy Russert's interrogation room to threaten us all with eternal war, death, and suffering. After evil Dick's threats, the public takes whatever the Dems or other "moderates" have to offer.

Of course you've got your renegade idealistic cops (Kucinich, etc.), naive rookies, and veterans that never took a payoff (McGovern, etc.), but the boys in charge aren't there to serve and protect us anymore.

It makes sense to me. Not much else does...

7. Never fails! Any time a Dem does the right thing, hr's attacked
Daschle says investigation still needed and responsibility came late - THAT makes him spinelss? What the hell is wrong with you? Do you have proof CIA falsified anything? Because I for one didn't even see the conspiracy theory on it. And if the proof were floating on the internet, HE"D STILL NEED AN INVESTIGATION - before accusing!
Also which part of "Minority" you don't understand? Maybe if people like you would vote sometime, the situation would be different! Sheesh!

13. You mean Demoebas?
As Gephardt proves, a life of compromise makes one a compromiser.

Didn't Junior just say: "I take responsibility for everything in my administration"? That should be a springboard for some serious ridicule.

6. Okay, Bush has accepted the blame
He has accepted the blame for lying about the reasons for invading Iraq.

Having done so, he should now resign.

12. Great stuff from David Corn…a break down of the press conference…
The Emperor Has No Evidence

During the press conference, Bush several times uttered the most disingenuous statements to defend the war. These were remarks that cannot withstand scrutiny. But it's good to be king (or president). You don't get laughed out of the room--or a rose garden--no matter what you say.
