Obama, Biden celebrate US auto industry renewal
Source: AFP

KOKOMO, Indiana (AFP) – President Barack Obama defiantly warned "don't bet against America" Tuesday, celebrating his rescue of the US auto industry and predicting the economy would recover despite a slow rebound.

Obama traveled to a Chrysler factory in Indiana to recall how his administration had bucked much political advice and helped bail out the industry last year, fearing its collapse could endanger millions of jobs.

"We had a confidence in the American worker. Today we know that was the right decision," Obama said, after touring a transmission factory in the famed auto industry town of Kokomo with Vice President Joe Biden.

"Don't bet against America, don't bet against the auto industry, don't bet against the American worker, don't bet against us," Obama said.

4. The President bailed them out and in a year
GM has basically paid back more than 50%-60% owed to the treasury. The rest should be paid back within two years. Most importantly 1.4 million jobs, according to the GAO (NOT THE PRESIDENT, were saved between auto workers, suppliers, dealships, etc.

Bravo Obama and Biden!!

5. Why on God's earth didn't they do this BEFORE the midterm? And why
weren't the Democrats screaming this success from the hilltops?

They left poor Verg Bernero out there to fight for himself and he ended up losing. And now Michigan has a wingnut for its governor. Way to go! :sarcasm:

So sad.

7. This is a success?
GM is a long ways from making the government whole. And Chrysler? You must be kidding.

BTW, Fiat, the new corporate overlord of Chrysler, is introducing the new 500 to America in December. Made in Mexico.

9. People didn't lose their jobs. I recently attended an excellent presentation
from Governor Jennifer Granholm, and while we didn't get everything we wanted, in general, bailing out the auto industry was the right thing to do.

12. Governor Jennifer Granholm is hardly unbiased.
She is NOT the person to ask for a fair analysis of the huge auto bailouts.

8. They did it again and again and again. No one covered it, no one cared.
The whole "Obama didn't talk to the American people" memo is one of the biggest lies in a long list of lies.

6. Where is my electric farm vehicle?
Or my electric Pickup Truck?

How far along is the New "Smart Grid" that was all the rage 2.5 years ago?

I have put off purchasing a new vehicle simply because Gas and Diesal are non starters when it comes to the future, yet, we have yet to see the Electric Vehicle come into its own in any way.

Hybrid technology stull utilizes overpowered gasoline engines when engines 1/10 the size would suffice. Nobody questions these designs.

The American "Hybrid" have up to 350HP motors! What the fuck is up with that?

There are no American vehicles in the pipeline that are worth a pinch of shit to even consider buying.
