Pakistan president urged not to pardon Christian woman
Source: Internet CNN

Two prominent Pakistani Muslim leaders threatened Wednesday to call for nationwide protests if the president pardons a Christian woman sentenced to death for insulting the Muslim prophet Mohammed.

Prosecutors say Bibi, a 45-year-old field worker, insulted the Prophet Mohammed after she got into a heated argument with Muslim co-workers who refused to drink from a bucket of water she had touched because she is not Muslim.

In a brief news conference at the prison where she's being held, Bibi said last weekend that the allegations against her are lies fabricated by a group of women who don't like her. "We had some differences and this was their way of taking revenge," she said.

Bibi's death sentence sparked outrage among human rights groups, who condemned Pakistan's blasphemy law as a source of violence and persecution against religious minorities.

This is a shocking example of the extreme laws in effect in Pakistan.

3. I like that.
Levity aside, this is total bullshit.
This is such a clear cut case of persecution, the US government should be offering her asylum.

11. For the same reason we're still fighting over whose imaginary political system is better
For the same reason we're still fighting over whose imaginary political system is better, or whose imaginary economic system is better. That is, we're simply looking for excuses and justifications, and religion, politics and economics are the easiest to use, I imagine.

6. Lol...wrong paradigm this time
Did you not read the article?

In a brief news conference at the prison where she's being held, Bibi said last weekend that the allegations against her are lies fabricated by a group of women who don't like her. "We had some differences and this was their way of taking revenge," she said.

Yes, it's the fault of men.

5. No, no, no.
You're forgetting the mantra.

Islam is one of the world's great religions. There is only one Islam. It is a religion of peace. All but a small minority of Muslims are loving, peaceful, and tolerant.

Okay, so a very large section of a very large Muslim nation are ignorant, intolerant, hateful assholes.

Nonetheless . . .

Ooommmmmm

I'd point out that the prominent Muslim politicians' speech is very *much* not the consequence of the extreme laws in effect in Pakistan any more than gravity is the effect of an apple's random movement.

First, the laws don't require that these politicians speak out.

Second, the laws didn't just arrive on an asteroid, stunning everybody in Pakistan when they suddenly appeared in the country's legal code. They were promulgated by men at a point in time because it was politicall advantageous.

Third, Musharraf suggested repealing them and it sharply dinged his popularity. They are *popular* and have been populaar, supported by what can only be the majority non-Muslim population of Pakistan as we define "Muslim," which is to say, the people accepting the (as we define it--or as those that we like define it)--the One True Islam. Of course, by that definition most Muslims aren't Muslims, but let's not let such trivia interfere with our conclusion. Still.

In other words, there is a hypothesis offered--or, rather, a set of hypotheses, since we can more or less Schoenfinkelize the mantra at the period breaks. This is the standard MSM mantra because it suits the MSM and many others to assume that everybody is American. This story provides prima facie and crucial, albeit absurdly common and oft repeated, counterfactual, hypothesis-falsifying evidence. It's left as an exercise to the student to determine which clause or clauses of the sacred mantra has been utterly falsified.

My prediction is that the mantra will be confirmed to be falsified by those who don't believe it. Those who already believe it, for whatever reason (confirmation bias, spinelessness, false sense of tolerance, whatever), will ignore the falsification; after all, it is a belief.

8. For as high and mighty as they make out the prophet Mohammed,
the judgments they make in his name sure make him out to be petty and small-minded.

It's so illogical that I can only conclude that these laws are strictly for institutional control of people, not some sort of protection of their religion. After all, if you have to beat and kill people who disagree or critisize your religious beliefs, then you are exposing your religion and beliefs as weak and ineffectual. You're basically admitting that the doctrine cannot stand on its own so it has to be forced onto people through threats. That is utterly pathetic.

9. If Mohammed were alive today
These folks would issue a fatwa against him, after all, he does specifically speak against killing women.

10. When you advocate the death of someone
you expose the poverty of your life philosophy or religious views.

Sorry. GOD would not approve. End...of....story.

If a caveman in ancient times said we had to kill another person to prove the preeminence of "the Big Rock God", would we approve?
Neither should we with these MODERN cavemen.
