Willie Nelson charged with pot possession in Texas
Source: AP

SIERRA BLANCA, Texas (AP) — A U.S. Border Patrol spokesman says country singer Willie Nelson was charged with marijuana possession after 6 ounces was found aboard his tour bus in Texas.

Patrol spokesman Bill Brooks says the bus pulled into the Sierra Blanca, Texas, checkpoint about 9 a.m. Friday. Brooks says an officer smelled pot when a door was opened and a search turned up marijuana.

Brooks says the Hudspeth County sheriff was contacted and Nelson was among three people arrested.

Sheriff Arvin West didn't immediately return a phone message left at his home Friday, but he told the El Paso Times that Nelson claimed the marijuana was his. The singer was held briefly a $2,500 bond before being released.

124. Willie gets busted pretty regular and nothing happens. My favorite bust story is how they found poot
ie's stash after the funeral on the bus and nobody even knew it was there. Trust me, this is a big joke here in Texas. Most jurisdictions leave him alone and some of those coppers get in trouble for popping one of Willie's buses. We just light up another and laugh like hell. If Willie ain't worried, neither are we.

128. That's so wonderful that the famous and well off Willie gets
what amounts to a free pass while tens of thousands of us common folk have our lives all but destroyed when we get caught with just a joint. In VA 6 oz would be a felony punishable by 5 to 40 years with a 5 mandatory (possibly suspended), 1 year loss of license even if you were nowhere near a car, SR-22 high risk auto insurance for 4 to 7 years even if you were nowhere near a car, 1000's in fines, a required DNA sample to be filed with the state, and indefinite probation with random urine/blood test tests.

Glad this is just gonna be another 10 minutes of fame for Willie.

Families and lives are destroyed over our insane pot laws in this country every day and should not be taken lightly.

teabagger/conservative/libertarian back-lash oddball voter turnout, that national the drop in 25 and younger number of voters since the President's election, it would have passed.

130. Lighten up, ace. The assholes in VA ain't Willie's fault. And the fact is if he got caught in Travis
county where he lives its not even a slap on the wrist, step accross into Williamson county and its a whole other nightmare. Do what Willie did, join NORML. Norml lawyers will get you a conclusion more like Willies.

133. I will not lighten up.
I'm sick and tired of the double standard applied to our "stars".

Maybe if the stars were finally prosecuted like the commoners we could get some change to these barbaric, pointless laws.

Friends and family have had lawyers that were members of NORML etc. They were still just as fucked when the verdict came down.

Got 18 months probation, a fine, and had to take some stupid classes..(and of course piss test)

I've had cops dump out my dugout on the ground and give me a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia ticket...

Guess it just depends...a lot of cops think it's a waste of their time

30. And,
here is the ultimate irony: Mr. Nelson continues to lead a productive and philanthropic life, and has done so for quite a number of decades, 'despite' his regular use of marijuana. All the sheeple who are opposed to legalizing marijuana can recite in unison the 'reasons' it should remain illegal, but they seldom know why it was made illegal in the first place. It was all about money then, and it is all about money now. Law enforcement, politicians, and bankers make a ton of money on 'illegal drugs,' and that fact alone is a strong motivator to continue feeding propaganda to the sheeple, and busting an iconic pothead just because they can.

73. Absolutely spot on!
Willie is another icon like Johnny Cash - who empathizes with the downtrodden. That alone is enough to make him a target.

I've seen Willie live at concerts, one outdoors in the rain where, after he had finished his contracted program, he told the audience, "So long as y'all're willin' to stand out there, I'm willin' to sing." And sing he did! We all stayed until the park officials finally closed down the concert. It was REALLY coming down by then.

Long may he smoke pot! If it was legal, we might actually have a "kinder, gentler nation." We would certainly be more mellow.

As much as I want marijuana legalized, nobody should have to suffer for this cause. There have been way too many pointless arrests and life-altering jail terms for a simple weed. I hope Willie gets off lightly.

40. Military Checkpoints are numerous in the Southwest
- OK, Boarder Patrol Checkpoints.

In a recent five day trip I made from San Diego to southern Arizona I went through almost twenty of these checkpoints. That is far more than there used to be. Plus I was frequently followed by the Boarder Patrol. It got very old.

Of course this wouldn't be necessary if they instead went after the rich folks who hired the illegal immigrants.

Texans didn't initiate the bust - the Feds(Border Patrol) did. Had the Feds not alerted the locals and asked them prosecute there would be no arrest to talk about.

Last time I checked the Federal government was headed by people purporting to be liberals.

So that's 93% that are not Repuglicans among DC residents. WHO should secede?

50. C'mon, let up on us Texans...
a lot of us are flaming liberals down here except that we've been gerrymandered the hell out of and too many Texans are too poor and discouraged and disenfranchised to vote. But, of course, there is the idiot factor. I read of a proposed solution by a Texan posting on another liberal website. He said instead of all of Texas seceding, we ought to set aside a section of the state just for them. I vote for the patch near Tynan where those UFOs are always abducting people. Then, we can send pRick Perry, upChuck Norris and their band of merry morans to secede down there to their hearts' content. Have a contest on what to call their new kingdom. Dumbfuckistan. I'm stuck in Boerne, TX., 87% Republican by demographics. Unless I can sell this place I live in to someone that would be stupid enough to buy a crater in Arizona, like a Teabagger. All might not be lost though. All of them will be moving soon around Tynan to the Federation of Analprobeia. Gawd, conspiracists say that aliens are breeding with humans to produce hybids to preserve their species which has hit an evolutionary dead end. With Teabaggers, that dead end devolved into a CAUTION, CLIFF AHEAD. Their species is doomed.

Edited on Sat Nov-27-10 01:51 AM by man4allcats
Try reading a book. I would suggest JFK And The Unspeakable: Why He Died and Why It Matters. The author, James W. Douglass, makes a very credible case for the Joint Chiefs and the CIA setting up the kill. It was actually planned for 3 weeks earlier in Chicago but was discovered and so had to be postponed. This job had the Feds' signature all over it. As for the Bushes - or bushes, - you can grow bad weed anywhere. And DeLay? Hey, don't you read the news? A Texas jury convicted him! Sheesh! :eyes:

64. Keeping it illegal = profits for special interests
Certainly the private/commercial prison industry likes pot being illegal. I'm not sure if any cartel money ends up in the hands of anti-pot politicians, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Stimulants & opiods gave drugs a bad name. Nobody ever OD'd on weed, and if more people smoked a damn joint now and then the discourse in this country would be a hell of a lot more civil. Give me a choice between dealing with people that are drunk or those who've smoked a doobie, and I'll take the stoner every time. I remember being in the service and watching hard-core drunks retained or even promoted, while great sailors who smoked a random joint on weekend leave were summarily tossed out of the military. Crazy.

I had real hope that California Prop 19 would pave the way for the nation to come to it's senses WRT marijuana laws. I don't know how it failed, other than perhaps Diebold rigged yet another election.

74. Proposition 19 failed because too many cannabis users, ...

and others, are happy with the current paradigm.

An incredible amount of lies, disinformation and just plain bullshit was promulgated just before the election by those who are making big money growing marijuana, running medical marijuana dispensaries, defending busted cannabis users, trimming bud, arresting, prosecuting, jailing, engaged in the judicial system, and otherwise cashing in right now. Basically the concern is that the price of "pot" will go way down. Prices have been decreasing steadily for the last few years, the wholesale price for a pound in Northern California is now about $2000, or $1800, depending on quantity. Literally everybody in some of the rural areas is growing. There is a glut every year about this time. The vast scale of this enterprise would be difficult for most folks from elsewhere to comprehend. We're talking many billions of dollars at the wholesale level just in California.

The price per pound was $2500 two years ago, and ten to twenty years ago it was $4000/lb. Before that it was a high as $5000/lb. This is the wholesale cost from the grower for high grade sinsemilla, one toke dope...

Even the "trim", the leaves and bits previously discarded while trimming buds, until about five years ago, is now quite valuable because turning this material into very strong, tasty hashish is easy with what are referred to as "bubble bags" and ice, that's all. Google is your friend if this isn't something you have heard about yet.

Of course many of these people were for the measure but an incredible number turned out to be opposed.

Isn't 'I smelled marijuana' the cops built in excuse for searching anybodies car or in this case bus. Don't get me wrong in this case it wouldn't surprise me if they did smell marijuana, but anytime a person is stopped all a cop has to say is 'I smelled marijuana' and they get to search your car without a warrant. How many times do they do this, find nothing and the person just goes on their way and we don't hear about it. I think in a lot of case, especially when it come to celebrities, that look at who they are dealing with and figure there is a high (no pun intended) probability that the person is carrying so they just use the built in excuse to get access to the inside of the vehicle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18RAj-qDKNo Willie Nelson / Willie K - Will The Circle Be Unbroken / I'll Fly Away This was shot from close to the front but in the back we were dancing :)

We had a concert for Neil with Willie Nelson and Willy K, and somewhere along around the middle, the energy shifted for the whole race, and we ended up kicking butt.

17 pt spread.... Mahalo Willie
