McCain wants 'regime change' in North Korea
Edited on Sun Nov-28-10 11:17 AM by Turborama
Source: Politico

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is calling for "regime change" in North Korea - and blames the recent crisis on the failings of Pyongyang's lone international supporter, China.

"It's time we talked about regime change in North Korea - and I do not mean military action - but I do believe that this is a very unstable regime," McCain told Candy Crowley Sunday on CNN's State of the Union. "They are now passing on from the "Dear Leader" to the "Sweet Leader," a 27-year-old four-star general."

McCain, in his first appearance on the show, lit into Beijing, while tepidly endorsing China's plan for emergency multi-party talks. "The key to this, obviously, is China and, unfortunately,China is not behaving as a responsible world power," McCain said. "It cannot be in China's interest in seeing a renewed conflict on the Korean peninsula.. We've got to understand that China is not what we want it to be, but is not playing a responsible role on the world stage, much less on the Korean peninsula. They could bring the North Korean economy to its knees if they wanted to and I cannot believe that the Chinese should, in a mature fashion, not find it in their interest to restrain North Korea - and so far they have not."

Without specifying his preferred policies, he added, ominously: "We have to make adjustments to our policies regarding China."

1. No doubt that China would agree and be happy to oblige.
If he thinks the US is the answer to that little 'problem' he's living full-tilt in dreamland.

16. Apparently more than 50% of AZ voters are senile as well.
They just sent the babbling lunatic back to Congress. It's sad when such a pathetic soul is sent, over and over again, to represent a whole state to Washington ON THEIR BEHALF...but that's what they've done...again.

5. The only thing that can dislodge the NK regime is China
unless there is a popular uprising - or an internal feud.

6. I want regime change in the House of Reps in my own country, but I'm not allowed to kill anyone.
So, apparently, the biggest differences between McInsane and me on this subject are that I understand national boundaries and, both inside and outside my country, I am willing to allow law to circumscribe my actions and desires.

8. Sadly, he probably prefers Bush Cheney style regime change-- Shock and Awe
Merciless bombing of hundreds of thousands to depose a disgusting dictator.

The slow, smart "Sunshine Policy" the Bush gang crushed when they came to power didn't fit in with the fear pumping machine they were rolling out. Axis of Evil. Axis of Evil. Axis of Evil. Bring it on.

Longing for a return to smarter diplomacy was one of my reasons for supporting President Obama. And I have appreciated some of his moves in that direction.

But I had also hoped some kind of Truth & Reconciliation hearings would have finally put the cap on the very destructive very outdated massive military bombing and barbaric torture the USA under Bush Cheney had used to impose our interests. I thought such serious hearings and perhaps even prosecutions (Nuremberg Nuremberg Nuremberg) would have led to a more widespread recognition that such massive destruction created far more enemies for our country in the long term and that we needed a whole new approach.

But I guess the needs of our military aggression contractors were far more important than our national security. Billions of dollars are at stake if we try to turn away from destructive, polluting, dangerous military policies.

9. McCain should shut the fuck up.
He is not a military expert by any means, he is not a diplomat, he is not a negotiator, he is not going to dictate to China what is in their best interests.

The Chinese might see him as an aging war-monger that is past his prime, but I doubt if they take whatever he has to say very seriously.

McCain likes to prattle on about things in a vain effort to remain relevant; his own party doesn't seem to agree with him.

10. Can you imagine what the right wing would be saying
If a Democratic Senator had said stuff like this when Schrub was in the White House? They'd probably be calling for the person to be expelled from the Senate and charged with treason.

11. From the depths of the senile old Alzheimer's riddled brain of John McCain, we have a revelation
McCain independently comes around to the observation that the government of North Korea needs a regime change.

If this wasn't so dangerously serious, it could be used for an episode on the Bob and Tom Show for "Mr. Obvious".

12. china has a big problem with it`s buddy in north korea
Edited on Sun Nov-28-10 12:18 PM by madrchsod
china can not afford having a change in the situation in on korean peninsula. the only thing that is keeping things more or less stable is the us carrier fleet. if north korea decides to attack south korea there is little the chinese can do unless they want a full blown war.

i expect the chinese to put the smack down on the north koreans.

13. China fears a unified, market based Korean economy...
...more than it does a North Korea that occasionally acts out.

China keeps the North Korean prison state afloat simply because they'd rather 20 million people suffer under its brutality than see a unified, market based Korean peninsula which is allied to the United States.

The best thing that could happen is not regime change, but a general collapse of the North Korean state. A lot of suffering will end when North Korea finally implodes - we just have to hope it goes away quietly like communist failures such as East Germany.
