Australian Police Investigate WikiLeaks Founder

Attorney-General Robert McClelland says police are investigating whether any Australian law has been broken by the latest leaking of confidential documents by online whistle-blower WikiLeaks.

McClelland told reporters on Monday he was not aware of a request from the United States to cancel WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's Australian passport. He says a range of options are under consideration by Australian government agencies in response to the latest disclosure of classified U.S. material.

McClelland says there are "potentially a number of criminal laws" that could have been breached.

The 'National Security' threat has been given as a reason for secrecy by many administrations.

Its credibility has plummeted.

They can't keep using it as a tool to keep secrets and prevent embarassment any longer.

If our leaders haven't been decent let is come out.

We need to break this hold over us.

Some of our leaders have made themselves look like fools just for using National Security as a threat.

They have used their tool, often in a lousy actor delivery and setting.

Our leaders have made us beligerant in our beliefs.

Too bad they are going to get crap back in their faces.

I hope no one is harmed, but that those who are revealed in a negative way are hurting professionally by embarassement and the consequences for the worst of them will be job losses if their remarks are too flip, too caustic, too disrespectful, too arrogant, too cruel, too revealing of contempt.

I hope there are no remarks that result in the deaths of innocents or even the least contemptuous of the players.
