13. I have definitely noticed that diligent copy editing seems to be on the decline.
As for the OP, lets all hope that this can be resolved without a body count. No parent should have to live though the horror of losing a child.

18. With all due respect:
1.) Clarity in public service announcements is essential, it is not a trivial matter.
2.) Nothing we say here will have the slightest effect on the outcome of this situation.
3.) Levity under stress is quite common and can be helpful.

9. I'm telling ya', if my child was being held hostage by a gunman -
- the very first thing I'd be worried about would be the improper grammar used by the local media. :eyes:

I'm sure the locals appreciate the stations efforts to assist - bad grammar and all.

15. That seems pretty insensitive, there, proud2BlibKansan.
Uncharacteristic of you. It's a serious situation. Someone made a grammar error. The situation isn't funny. I'm very disappointed in your post.

21. Its good that they haven't gone in yet- must mean nobody is hurt.
They know who the kid is and he has no history with the police. I hope the teacher is keeping her cool.

27. Chief: Armed Student in Wis. Shot Himself
Police Chief Jeff Skorik says a student who held nearly two dozen other students and a teacher hostage for more than five hours in a Wisconsin classroom shot himself after authorities entered the classroom.

Skorik says the student was taken to an area hospital and his condition wasn't known Monday night. The police chief says police officers entered the classroom after hearing three gunshots. No other students or the teacher were wounded.

MARINETTE, Wis. — The 15-year-old Marinette (Wis.) High School student who held 23 students and a teacher hostage on Monday has died.

The gunman, identified by Marinette Police Chief Jeff Skorik as Samuel Hengel of Porterfield, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at 10:44 a.m. Central, a day after a five-hour standoff in which he held 23 students and a teacher hostage at a Northeastern Wisconsin high school.

Hengel was in grave condition Tuesday morning at Green Bay's St. Vincent Hospital, Skorik said at a news conference Tuesday. He did not comment on the nature of the gunman's injuries.
