Obama: It's time to end 'don't ask'

The president says the Pentagon's review "confirms" that most in the military are OK working with gays.

CONFIRMATION: President Obama says the Pentagon's "don't ask, don't tell" review "confirms" that most service members are comfortable working alongside gays.

Obama also called on the Senate on Tuesday to "act as soon as possible" on legislation repealing the ban on gays serving in the military so he could sign it "this year."

"Our troops represent the virtues of selfless sacrifice and love of country that have enabled our freedoms," he said in a statement. "I am absolutely confident that they will adapt to this change and remain the best led, best trained, best equipped fighting force the world has ever known."
