4. Yes. At least it demonstrates that we're keeping an eye on
that airspace. That's a good thing.

Good old Piedmont Airlines. You can always count on them, eh?

17. Heh. Piedmont.
Once, when I was a little kid, I won a goldfish at a birthday party, and brought it home with me that day as an unattended child on a Piedmont flight. The pilot invited me and the goldfish in its mason jar up to the cockpit to take a look around. Try that these days.

13. False alarm: See update below.
An airliner lost radio contact when a pilot inadvertently turned his radio to the wrong frequency, leading to the scrambling of fighter jets and the evacuation of the U.S. Capitol, federal officials said Saturday.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters said the agency is reviewing the "pilot readback error." The loss of radio contact as the plane approached the nation's capital also led officials to evacuate all House and Senate office buildings.

Piedmont Airlines flight 4352 from Hilton Head, S.C., was on course for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when it lost radio contact with air traffic controllers at a regional radar facility in Virginia for about 15 minutes, FAA officials said.

F-16 fighter jets were scrambled from Andrews Air Force Base, but the airliner was able to re-establish radio contact and it landed at Reagan, said Stacey Knott, a spokeswoman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

19. The Air Force did in fact scramble fighters on 9/11.
Yet another one of the "9/11 was an inside job" myths.

yes i do believe that day was rigged somehow
those 3 buildings could not have fallen like they did

23. Just because you were in the AF doesn't mean you understand flying ops
Trust me, I'm in the USAF and 90% of the airmen I'm around every day have no idea what goes on in an airplane...even the guys maintaining the airplanes.

27. Phooey....
You've been in the airline industry...so that now means you know the ins and outs of flying operations in the Air Force? And higher ups in the FAA? Hey, for what it's worth, so do I. Not only do I know a bunch of people that are directors and branch chiefs within the FAA, I'm also a military pilot and know hundreds of other military pilots. So spare me.

21. Land of the Free, Home of the Brave?
Both are less and less true.

Lost com happens all the time. Only odd thing (besides the TERROR ATTACK!!! FLEE!!!! evolution) is that, when no joy on new freq, crew did not simply follow SOP and return to the previous before causing a TERROR alert. Perhaps they were discussing their retirement plans?

TERROR ALERT!! Scramble the fighters: Got to keep the FEAR alive.

Disgusting. Sad.
