'Huge' demonstration over Government cuts planned

Unions are gearing up for a demonstration in the spring against the Government's massive cuts in public spending, predicting it will be a "huge" national event.

The TUC is organising the protest in London on March 26 and said that by then, the impact of the austerity measures will have started to take hold, with an expected loss of tens of thousands of jobs.

Union members from across the UK are set to join the demonstration in London's Hyde Park, which will follow a series of protests in recent weeks against increases in student tuition fees and cuts in public services.

TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: "People have yet to feel the full impact of the Government's cuts. When they do - as we saw with the cancellation of the schools building programme - they have been angry.

What folks like you forget about is that governemnt spending is largely what produced the wealth that the billionaires claim they "made". Government contracts for weapons are just one thing that many of the billionaires make their money from. The educated workforce, and the safe business environment of the USA, are more things that free-marketeer zombies never seem to take into account, nor do they seem to realize that they aren't free. The ultimate freeloaders are billionaires claiming they "made" their money without any help.

one pound equals 1.56 dollars, so the additional rate would equate to about 50% tax on $225,000, leaving 113,000 for living. Sounds like more than plenty to me when the country has a National Health Plan and other social services...No wonder the people want to hit the streets over the hit to these social services. Meanwhile, here, we don't have nearly as many social services, pay a lot fewer taxes (but we pay way more for health care etc.), and have 20% unemployed or underemployed, at least. Why aren't we in the streets?

Our NHS isn't funded through income tax. Its NHS and state pensions are funded by additional taxes : c. 11% paid by employees and c.13% paid by employers in simple terms.

Its a fairy tale that our NHS is "free" - never has been as such.

And if you want to do conversions you'll find that our car fuel is $7 / US gallon.

Your plan is still far superior to ours. If you consider that 50,000 people now die each year here directly due to lack of health care coverage (comparable to about 10,000 dying in the Uk, if such were to be happening)

...of course, nothing is free... For us to have Medicare for all would actually be about 5% less in medicare tax than what you currently pay, (doctor's salaries aren't included in this plan).

The NHS also pays our general practitioner/doctors and consultant surgeons where applicable i.e. NHS specialised out patient consultations and operations etc.

If you were to check back to 1948 I think you'd find that part of its reason for being was to protect our children following loss of the adult population during WW2. We even got free orange juice and powdered milk as kids. I've never been and wouldn't be without it - is way of life to me and us in general. Obviously there is no such thing as pre-conditions : its there from conception including IVF treatment.

We don't have an equivalent of your State taxes on sales.

Different countries have different methods and types of taxation and so its difficult to draw comparisons between them.

And those who are disabled enough to be in care facilities would need their caregivers whether they be public or private to take them there. I'm talking of people that I know, but certainly that's not the entire group.

I am inspired by the sense of solidarity shown in the UK for all demographics. They have been nurtured in a social democracy and they don't have the media, GOPhers, etc. against them as here.

The media has only shown retired people who appear to be against the ACA and scream how they don't want socialism. This would be a beautiful thing to see all the generations come together.

It won't be televised, so it'll be hard to measure the effect. Our representatives supporting social security need our steadfast support.
