Three Iraqis, two US soldiers killed in Iraq
Source: AFP

BAGHDAD — Gun and bomb attacks killed three Iraqis and wounded 15 on Monday, security officials said, while the US military said two US soldiers had been killed, the first to die in Iraq this year.

A suicide car bomb exploded Monday morning outside a police intelligence office in Baquba north of the Iraqi capital, killing a man and wounding 15 other people, a security official and a doctor said.

The bombing targeted the office, located in a central market, at about 11:00 am (0800 GMT), the security official said, adding that guards protecting the building and girls on a nearby school bus were among the wounded.

Just before the suicide bomber blew up the car, insurgents threw several hand grenades into the intelligence office. It was the first attack against the centre, which was opened three years ago.

3. You're comparing soliders being in an attacked in an office
Edited on Mon Jan-03-11 02:27 PM by SpartanDem
vs intentionally starting fight with civilians around? You gotta have some deep seated hatred to used that kind of twisted logic.

4. Why would they put an "intelligence" office in a crowded market?
But yes, I am a little cynical about assholes who invade, occupy and murder.

6. You don't gather human intelligence sitting in the middle of the US embassy
Assholes? So the guys in Iraq are now assholes. Interesting.

8. So we should move all police stations to the local mall?
How about schools?

9. Nice try
But you're comparing US shopping malls and schools to downtown Baghdad. Last I checked most of our cities don't have armed militias and jihadist insurgent groups roaming around kidnapping, murdering and bombing civilians.

11. It appears they are bombing "intelligence centers".
If I remember correctly, all this nonsense started after the US got there.

Maybe they torture people there, who knows.

13. I've been in Iraq many times...
far more than you have more than likely. 9.5 times out of 10, the targets of insurgents were other Iraqis, not US troops. They bombed homes, schools, markets, mosques...you name it. The game was to destablize the current government so they could install whatever type of government their particular group believed in.

There was very little of that pre-US because Saddam was so damn brutal. Their's is a society that respects strength, whether or not they like that strength. Saddam had unimaginable strength in the eyes of most common Iraqis. The current government looks like an easy target to some because it's not a dictatorship.

The lens you and many others appear to view Iraqi society seems to be vastly different from the one I view it through. And I've worked hand-in-hand with everyday Iraqis over a sustained period of time. I wonder who's got an accurate viewpoint?

15. So you agree with the saying that the US took away one big Saddam and cursed
them with a million little ones. So are the new Saddams less brutal then the old one? Ask them next time you there. As for them killing themselves, that's what happens in a civil war. Which by the way was predicted before the morons at the pentagon decided to blow up what little infrastuture they had working. Create a vacuum and something will fill it.

16. Not quite
As brutal as the thugs are, they are no where near as powerful as Saddam was. I don't need to ask them again, I lived and worked with these people for a year. We discussed a lot of topics over that period of time.

Funny how your logic seems to twist around whatever will help you paint your viewpoint...at first they were "resistance fighters", now you admit they are "mini-Saddams". So which is it? Are they noble people fighting the big bad American occupiers or are they thugs looking to dominate the country? I've been pretty consistent in my view, you haven't.

17. That was me that stated the Iraqi people are fighting a war of resistance.

Arctic Dave pointed out, clearly, that all of this started after the US invaded.

I stated that the Iraqi people are fighting a foreign occupier no different than the occupied people of Europe fought the nazis and their own respective Vichy/Quisling governments that were installed by the nazis.

20. I haven't changed my opinion in the least.
I'm more then positive that they can both be against the US occupation and have people jockeying for power. Seems more then logical. Hell, I'm sure there are Iraqis that are fully for having an occupying power in their country, after all, the French had Nazi collaborators too.

21. The Iraqis I worked with
are far more noble than you could ever imagine. Comparing them to Nazi collaborators speaks volumes of what you know. It must be nice for you to be able to sit on the other side of the world in comfort and slandering people so casually.

22. I didn't compare them to Nazi collaborators.
I just used that as a gauge as to how some people, no matter how atrocious the the occupier, will gladly help in the demise of their country and countrymen.

2. It's a real relief to know this war has been ended.
Maybe it's time someone lets the people fighting it know that.

7. "The resistance" will probably continue even after we leave
The vast majority of those that make up the "resistance" are people trying to destablize the government for their own ends.

12. It is their country
Just as the French fought the nazis and the Vichy government

Just as the Norwegians fought the nazis and Quisling.

NATO doesn't own Iraq, the US doesn't own Iraq, the western powers don't own Iraq.

What the Iraqi resistance does is no different than the people of any other occupied country throughout history.

<>

The resistance lives.

14. Funny...
You seem to think that the Iraqis were OK with their last government and are trying to topple the current one because it's evil.

I'd beg you to go to Iraq and actually live/work among them for a little while.

Those that are doing the bulk of the insurgent fighting aren't fighting for freedom, my friend. They are fighting to install their own theocracies and/or dictatorships and grab power. Pure and simple.

23.  Invading other countries
Can be bad for one's health. When that unelected fraud invaded Iraq in order to steal their oil he placed our troops in harms way.Why are our citizens surprised when we lose one or two of our service members? We cheer them on when they maim and kill innocent civilians and the soldiers that try to protect their country against an invading Army bent on destroying them and their people.Would we expect anything less if we were invaded by outsiders? The person that caused their deaths is free to walk the streets of America without fear, praised for his evil deeds.we as a nation and people need to join together and confess that it was wrong to send our military against a people that did us no wrong,we need to ask to be forgiven and repent from supporting evil deed by our leader.
