Palin's caribou hunt won't be investigated
Source: CBC

Sarah Palin's recently televised caribou hunt has raised questions about whether the former Alaskan governor may have violated state regulations by taking only some of the meat.

In an episode of Sarah Palin's Alaska, on the U.S. network TLC early last month, Palin embarked on a hunting trip with her father, Chuck, and a friend.

Sporting a green camouflage jacket, Palin is shown firing a rifle at a caribou, killing it.

But it's what happened after the fatal shot — when Palin and her father started butchering the caribou — that raised the eyebrows of Alaskan wildlife officials and even one expert hunter in northern Canada.

"Just from looking at that, there's still quite a bit of meat that's left behind there," said Fred Sangris, a member of Yellowknives Dene First Nation in the Northwest Territories.

...

However, Palin's father said he would not gut the freshly killed caribou.

"We're going to quarter it and take him home, so I don't gut him," he said on camera.

That decision surprised Riley Woodford, a spokesman with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in Juneau.

...

Woodford said it is nearly impossible to access a caribou's tenderloins without gutting it first, but said there will be no investigation, since it's not known what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.

1. I once read where Sarah's dad killed a moose on her permit.
I don't know about them but where I come from that sort of thing is highly illegal.

9. Same here in PA - but then Mama Grizzly proved she's no hunter
She handled the rifle carelessly, missed first 4-5 shots cause supposedly daddy knocked her scope out of line, had daddy load her rifle and work the bolt between shots, asked if the rifle kicked, and was hunting with a varmint rifle (caliber really really borderline for caribou).

She looked like a 10 year old on her first hunt with daddy. Hell I know 10 year olds who would run circles around Sarah as a hunter.

12. That episode cost her some groupies.
You don't pick up a rifle with your finger inside the trigger guard on your own hunting show. Some of her followers, slapped in the face with this stark reality, were able to finally realize what a phony she truly is.

14. I'm not a hunter but someone
on DU told me that her scope was off -- that her dad tried out the rifle later and confirmed it was off. It would seem to me you'd check those things BEFORE you discharged a firearm but what the hell do I know?

16. Seems to me if you took a bad enough fall & knocked the scope
around you'd check out your scope on a stationery target & racalibrate it. Or if you missed your first 2 shots on your target you might think gee my scope must be off.

They must've found eitber a deaf or the dumbest caribou in Alaska cause that animal basically stood around while Sarah blasted away at it.

You better have your scope lined up down here in PA cause Whitetails are going to probably only going to give you one shot.

3. I don't know why she took any of it. I doubt she can cook. She probably burns water.
Frankly, I wouldn't trust her near a stove. I wouldn't even let her microwave popcorn even if the microwave has a single-touch button that says "popcorn".

It had nothing to do with food in the first place - it was just a set-up so she could prove she can't shoot worth shit.

5. There will be no investigation because they don't know what happened? WTF?
Isn't that precisely WHY you do an investigation, because you don't know what happened? What the bloody fuck is going on here? It must be that damned liberal media. Jesus.

6.  since it's not known what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.
Well, whatever you do, do NOT ask anyone under oath--Palin, her Dad, whoever else was there, including the producer, director, crew, etc. You might learn what happened after the cameras stopped rolling.

Oh, wait. Learning stuff, suh as what happened after the cameras stopped rolling, would be the whole point of an investigation.

Is Palin Dumb contagious? If not, who ate the brain of Riley Woodford, a spokesman with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in Juneau?

7. I'm loving the fact that she has a reality show.
I won't watch it, but I'm very happy nonetheless, as her arrogance, and completely disregard for the laws for 'little people' will shine through.

There's a bit of it right there.

10. Shame on them
Edited on Mon Jan-03-11 06:14 PM by RamboLiberal
Even if they couldn't use all the meat I bet it could've been donated. We have hunters in PA who donate all or part of their deer kills to food kitchens.

If they were true Alaskans they'd be like Native Americans who used nearly every part of tne animal.

13. If she did leave the carcass there, it was on purpose
It's lots easier to shoot wolves from a helicopter if you bait them in.
