Obama approval rating back up to 50%

Don't look now, but President Obama's popularity is going back up.

In fact, the Gallup people report that Obama's approval rating is back at 50%, its highest level in seven months.

"Obama's approval rating has been in the mid-40% range for much of the latter half of 2010," Gallup reported. "He last hit 50% approval in a three-day average near the end of May/beginning of June."

Gallup also noted that "it is not yet clear if Obama's approval rating will stay above 50% in the coming days" and that "the current 50% average over the last three days could reflect a temporary increase in optimism that Gallup sometimes sees at the beginning of a new year."

I am sure the corporate media will find some poll announcing a new low in President Obama;s poll numbers, but here is a Gallup in a poll that the corporate media is sure to ignore.

1. That may be. But if they count my opinion, it drops a little.
I was looking forward to the first president that would fight
to try to enact his campaign promises.. I have been very
disappointed in his foreign policy, health care reform, and
monetary "reform".
I do not forgive and I do not forget. No, I will not vote for
him again.

10. ROFL! The Zombie Talking Point That Pres. Obama's Approval Fell Because He Is Right Wing!
Edited on Wed Jan-05-11 01:45 AM by TomCADem
This kind of reminds me of the Latinos for Reform groups in Nevada who were urging Latinos to punish Democrats for not being aggressive enough on immigration reform by not voting. Of course, it turns out that these groups were funded by Republicans.

Yet, we have a DUers proudly posting that they will not vote for President Obama in 2012, which is followed by several me-too posts. +1,000,000,000,000%.

I know that some DUers have been gleefully citing polls regarding 2012 Presidential match-ups to argue that President Obama should be challenged from the left in the primaries for 2012. Likewise, there is this narrative being pushed on this Board that President Obama is a closet Republican.

My personal opinion is that the corporate media has been manipulating the left AND right. The corporate media repeatedly emphasizes stories of attacks from the left AND right on Obama, which is why we can have some liberals swearing the President Obama is a closet Republican while right wingers swear that he is a foreign national who occupies the same position on the idealogical spectrum as Hugo Chavez.

This is followed by GOP paid Psy-Ops like Latinos for Reform who organize attacks on Democrats from the "left," which dupes some on the left due to the megaphone effect of the corporate media. Indeed, the only way the left gets any media coverage is if they attack the President from the left, thus they have been trained by the corporate media to attack the President Obama and the Democrats, while giving Republicans a free pass. Remember Jane Hamscher on Fox News with Grover Norquist? The ticket to coverage is to attack Democrats!

This is why on this board, even though the Republicans are the ones who voted against the latest effort to repeal DADT, most of the posts attack President Obama and Demcratic leaders. Likewise, even though all Republicans voted against Democratic efforts to let the high end Bush tax cuts expires, most of the posts give Republicans a free pass and attack President Obama for his compromise.

Conversely, even though the Republican backed tax deal blows a hole in the deficit, the corporate media makes no mention of Tea Parties who were motivated by deficit concerns (remember Glenn Beck weeping about the deficit) being upset at the deal. Republicans get a free pass from their deficit obsessed fanatics!

In short, the left has been trained by the corporate media to attack our own while the tea party right (and the left) has been trained to give Republicans a free pass.

Meanwhile, in the real world, far more Americans who disapprove of him do so because they think he is too liberal. Remember, the "independents" who think President Obama went too far?

Still, don't let me stop you from pushing the false notion that President Obama is no different from a Republican. Its absolute crap, but if the Log Cabin Republicans can attack President Obama on DADT, WHICH WAS REPEALED UNDER PRESIDENT OBAMA, but give Republicans who voted against repeal a free pass, I guess it is no surprise that random posters on a Democratic Board can post that they will not vote for President Obama in 2012.

I am sure GOP Psy-Ops will pay for multitudes of like minded spammers.

(1) Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as president?
(2) (IF DISAPPROVE) Do you disapprove because you think his policies and actions since he became president have been too liberal, or because you think his policies and actions have not been liberal enough?

Approve: 48%
Disapprove, too liberal: 38%
Disapprove, not liberal enough: 9%
Disapprove, unsure: 3%

12. The left is not a mirror of the right and it doesn't follow
the corporate media. And, again, there was no group "Latinos for Reform". It was ONE (1) conservative PR operative.

The left criticizes the President from the left because they are THE LEFT.

14. Agreed & Well Said
I am exceptionally dissappointed in what I have seen thus far. It is not that items for which I care were not achieved (EFCA, SIngle Payer, etc) it is that they were not attempted.

15. This is a dup. He policies are still a disaster. Unemployment is still ~10%. FDR create over 4 M
FRD created over 4 million jobs in his first two years in office at a time when the population was 125M, 40% of what it is not. That would be 9.6 million jobs today. And the ~10% unemployment doesn't count the discourage workers. Who really gives a crap about a stupid poll.
