In House, new Republican majority plans to act fast to undo Obama's agenda (20-days)
Source: Washington Post

Almost as soon as they take control of the House at noon Wednesday, Republicans will embark on a 20-day plan aimed at undoing major aspects of President Obama's agenda as they seek to take advantage of the weeks before the Senate's return and the president's State of the Union address.

The first move will come Friday, when the House begins the process of repealing the new health-care law. House leaders will then quickly begin to identify tens of billions of dollars in proposed spending cuts and to ease regulations that businesses find burdensome.

Much of what Republicans do will be symbolic, given that Democrats still control the Senate and the White House. But the quick action will allow Rep. John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), the incoming speaker, and House Republicans to follow through on campaign pledges and to try to establish their party as a bulwark against what they see as an out-of-control government.

Recognizing the limits of their power, Republican leaders said they will follow their initial aggressive stance with efforts to force Obama into what they consider principled compromises. Those would most likely come with attempts to cut federal spending and spur job growth, two agenda items that both parties have set as priorities.

1. What Agenda?
If they undo the bank heist, that would be a good thing. Taking down the Fed Reserve would be an admirable success. Clearing out Obamacare for a real Medicare for All, or other single payer scheme would be praiseworthy.

Ending the illegal wars would be masterful, just cut off the money! Taking out the TSA so people can live unmolested and the Constitution can be restored, bold!

This is change I could believe in, and did.

11. When did Obama promise to take out the TSA, or the Fed Reserve? Or get single-payer?
Even then he's moving troops out of Iraq, and Biden has said they're going to start leaving out of Afghanistan soon.

It seems to me that some people had their wish list and assumed Obama promised it in 08, when he did no such thing. And then they were disappointed when he didn't come through on their wish list.

There's been a lot of progress in spite of the historic republican obstructionism.

18. The President's job is not to do what is promised, it is to do what is right
and what those who elected him voted for.

Are you really taking the stand that the only thing a President needs to do is exactly what is explicitly promised and just hang out the rest of the time?

No job on Earth is like that.

20. Sure, but people have a wish list on what is right, and they get disappointed when he doesn't come
through, he's done what's he promised which is a lot or atleast he tried to.

2. There was just anothre article stating that they already backed away from their
promise to "cut $100 billion" from the budget, and I just got an email from Harry Reid stating that he sent a letter to Boner telling him the Senate Democrats WILL NOT ALLOW the repeal of any of the Health Care Act.

So most of the WaPo's article is gop propaganda bullshit.

SPENDING TO BENEFIT RICH CRONIES!
TAX CUTS FOR ZILLIONAIRES!
SCREW THE UPPER MIDDLE CLASS AND ALL BELOW!

16. The lede has moved up to the third paragraph; that's some progress
"Much of what the Republicans will do will be symbolic," which is to say, a useless waste of time. Will the Post report on those futile efforts and call them what they are, or will they be entranced by the sound and fury, ignoring that it signifies nothing?

The smart money is on Door Number 2.

22. Remember the early months of Shrub's Pretzeldency...
the Repugnants, under Gingrich had a major shopping list of things to do right away. So many things that we couldn't slow the process down. They kept the old playbook and now will begin the slaughter.

So fast that we couldn't organize against anything. With 19 apparent Blue Dogs, they must have at least the power to push almost anything through.

'Ware the Ides of March.

Not going to make a bit of difference as it will never make it to Obama's desk.

25. The means to undo things will come from the appropriations process
or measures tacked onto must-pass measures. For example, when the debt ceiling needs to be raised and the alternative is default (far more serious than a government shut-down), look for specific prohibitions on the use of US funds. Something like, "No monies from the United States Treasury shall be expended on enforcing the provisions of HCR" or, "The Justice Department shall not expend any US funds challenging state laws addressing immigration enforcement."
