North Korea reported to have eased its alert level on the maritime border in the West Sea after hightened inter-Korean tension caused by the North's shelling of the South's island last November.
A government official said Friday that the communist state recently lifted its special alert level and thus activities of the North's artillery units near the border have been eased than before.
The official added that Seoul in response lowered its surveillance alertness against Pyeongyang as of Tuesday to the third-highest level, Watchcon 3 from Watchcon 2.
Seoul raised its surveillance level to the second-highest last year right after the North's shelling of Yeonpyeong on November 23rd that killed two marines and two civilians.
