Rudy Giuliani Reportedly Prepping For 2012 Presidential Run
Source: Huffington Post

"America's Mayor" Rudy Giuliani is reportedly seeking to give new life to his national profile by running for president in 2012.

The New York Post reports Friday that the former New York City mayor "is rounding up his top political advisers for a possible 2012 presidential run" in a move that includes plans to do some preliminary canvassing in New Hampshire.

Sources told the Post that Giuliani "thinks the Republican race will be populated with far-right candidates like Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee, and there's opportunity for a moderate candidate with a background in national security."

According to The Post's contacts, however, many see this potential move as a pointless endeavor driven by Giuliani's ego. "They think this is crazy," one person told The Post. "They realize how long the odds are, but they are standing by."

Book tour with the ultimate free publicity. He must be prepping a new book. Helps with speaking gigs too.

Which is why I expect the grifter to at least continue to squawk about a run.

17. I attended a speech he gave
and he is an arrogant rude man. I was shocked at how uninspiring he was and how he lived off of perceived greatness as he reiterated the tired litany of verbiage that just led me to believe he was a legend in his own mind. 911 911 911... blah blah blah.

7. This after he could not get the support or raise money to make a serious run for Governor or Senator
in 2010? Notice that there was no real competition for Governor on the Republican side. They nominated a loose cannon tea partier who ran a close second to Christine O'Donnell as the strangest and least qualified person to be elected to anything.

Remember he got almost no traction in 2008 - and it wasn't that there was an incredible field then. McCain by 2008 was not the McCain of 2000 - when he lost to negative campaigning by Bush. 911, Giuliani's high point, was 4 years more recent than it will be in 2012.

16. At this point, it will soon be a matter of who's NOT running
Remember when they had a deck of cards for all the top Iraqi officials (and a similar one of republicans)? We'll soon be able to make of deck of cards of republicans running for president in 2012. I wonder who would be the ace of spades? the two of diamonds?

28. How do you know?. He is a chameleon. He has taken just about every position there is on every
issue. Pro-gay, anti-gay; pro-gun, anti-gun; hunter, varmint shooter as a kid; pro-choice, anti-choice.

TV interviewer, to Ted Kennedy: Romney is saying he is anti-choice. When he was running against you, didn't he say he was pro-choice?

Kennedy: He's pro-choice; he's anti-choice; pro-choice, he's multiple choice.

(Gawd, I miss his wit. Love ya, Sen. Ted)

31. I think you have something there.
Anyone seriously hoping to capture the GOP nod is going to play to the base and do little beyond invoke Ronald Reagan, lower taxes, and personal faith. That's pretty much what happened in the Republican candidates' debates of 2008 (and, if I recall correctly, 2007). I'd expect some of the footage is still on YouTube, and perhaps the transcripts are floating about in cyberspace. Will Bunch also devoted a section of Tear Down This Myth to the GOP debate at the Reagan Library.

So the Rudy Giuliani who could get elected in a town that went 75 percent (or whatever the figure was) for Kerry will be gone, gone, gone, and in his place will be something closer to a tea party fantasy. (Just typing that makes me want to go wash my hands...)

Romney ran against Ted Kennedy for Senate (and helped Brown win that same seat after Kennedy died).

36. He has gone from moderate to right
In current form, he seems like a regular Bush/McCain-type. I save "far-right" for the most extreme examples (such as Sharon Angle and Jesse Helms), or its use won't be as powerful and will get diminished.

I also can tell you that the Tea Party hates him, and not because he's a Mormon (although that may add to it). If he was evangelical they still wouldn't like him.
