Suspects Raped 'Defenseless' Disabled Women on Tape
Source: ABC News

Two of the four suspects who are visible in more than 100 hours of videotape as they sexually assaulted severely disabled women, many of whom just "lay there" as they were attacked, have been identified, authorities announced.

Authorities announced today that the Los Angeles Police Department recognized two of the suspects on the tapes, evidence that detectives have described as some of the most "disturbing" images they've ever seen.

The suspects have not been identified to the public, but according to police, the individuals were investigated in 2007 and 2009, which resulted in one sexual assault conviction. Other cases involving these two suspects involved neglect, fiduciary crimes and sexual assault, but no videos.

-----

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Special Victims Bureau is looking for at least two more men in the brutal attacks on as many as ten disabled women, many of whom appear to be patients at residential care facilities.

According to Sgt. Daniel Scott, a package of 11 DVDs with more than 100 hours of video on them was left anonymously at the sheriff's office in March. Det. Ron Anderson, charged with viewing the material, quickly found that the material was like nothing he'd ever seen before.

facilities. This is another reason we need universal health care to address these problems that the private sector can't seem to handle. There are all kinds of abuse at these facilities to people who are too weak to defend themselves.

18. I suspect that they had good security but the home covered it up to avoid liability
otherwise, why did we have to wait so long for some "anonymous" individual to deliver the video evidence?

And, or course, the strong possibility that it was "security" that was committing the crimes.

Recently here a security company lost it's contract with the city because it became known that the guards were having sex with the students they were supposed to be guarding, dealing drugs, and actually participating with bullies in beating up students.

30. Again a problem with a private security company who
hire people probably close to minimum wage instead of professionals who have decent wages and benefits. I tell you the more I see what is happening with the privatization of what should be government run institutions the more I despair.

20. What are u talking about?
This is Universal health care. I used to work in nursing homes as a CNA and I can tell you that 95% of the people in those facilities are covered and inspected by some sort of govt program/agency. For one, the govt inspectors are a joke because we go by our own rules 99% of the time and just switch out to official protocol when the announced inspectors visited. The problem is not so much as in private facilities but some of the people that work in those facilities and just like in any profession, you will attract your fair share of deviants trying to take advantage of the system. All evidence shows that these people knew what they were doing and were prepared for it. Every ill in the world cannot be the fault of the private sector

Also I am sure this is an isolated incident cos in the 4yrs (worked in 4 facilities, 1 govt and 3 private) I worked in the profession, I never encountered abuse cases more sever than leaving a dirty brief on a resident

29. We don't have universal health care.
Edited on Fri Jan-07-11 08:19 PM by Cleita
If we did, there wouldn't be poor and disabled people who have rely on "some sort of govt program/agency" (your words), which is usually inferior because it doesn't cover nor include everyone. When that happens the quality of government health care and elderly care goes up as proved in other countries where the rich have to share in the same government health and elderly care that the poor have to.

but still don't believe the horror stories people tell about nursing homes, most facilities take very good care of their residents. The only poor quality service they receive come form of their meals, so apart from that the situation for those in the govt programs are A OK

50. Nursing Home Violations Found to be Common
Ovtober 3 , 2008

Nursing Home Violations Found to be Common

A recent report issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has found that nearly all nursing homes in the U.S. have received citations for health and safety violations in 2007. Led by Daniel Levinson, the inspector general of DHHS, federal investigators inspected and evaluated complaints from the nation's 15,000 nursing homes.

...snip...

The results of this nationwide inspection found that 94 percent of for-profit facilities and 88 percent of nonprofit organizations received citations for non-compliance last year.

...snip...

In most cases, violations cited by federal inspectors consisted of any combination of:

• Infected bed sores
• Malnutrition
• Medication mishaps
• Patient abuse (either psychological or physical)
• Patient neglect

37. And my experience with nursing homes
is exactly the opposite. My Great Uncle went in to get PHYSICAL THERAPY. Unfortunately, I came down with the flu right after that, came back 10 days later and I didn't even recognize him. They put him on SEDATIVES. How the hell you're supposed to get physical therapy on sedatives I have no idea. If he would have gone home (as I urged) he would be alive today. I figure it took that nursing home about 30 days to kill him. My Great Aunt paid in advance and, since they kept having to rush him to the hospital for one thing or another during that time, she had a refund of $1600.00 coming. Took the sons a bitches almost a year to return that money and that was AFTER they had to deal with me. And one more thing. They took EVERYTHING that wasn't nailed down and no, it wasn't the residents because the residents are all SEDATED. It was the fucking staff who couldn't care less about these patients.

There's a reason these places are known as snake pits. The reputation is well deserved. If anyone is put in this position, do NOT allow your loved ones to stay in one of these places if you can possibly help it.

45. It's because you weren't looking
ALL of the dozens of people I know who work, or have worked, in such facilities, especially private ones, have long, depressing lists of abuse stories.

Of course, some of the abuse is systemic, and hence 'legal'. More of it comes from the families wanting the damned old people to hurry up and die before the money's all spent. Those don't usually get investigated either.

Sentence them to death. There is no rehabilitation, there is no contribution to society.
Having them sit in a detention center with three hots and a cot, a shower, food, cable TV, A library, recreation etc.

Nope, Offenders as these need to be put to death.
And when they are executed, God will reneder true judgement on their souls.

Nothing about jailing someone for life means you have to forgive them. All the "no death penalty EXCEPT for my own personal pet issue which I'm close to for x and x reasons" are getting pretty tiring.

17. I am suprised...
but not shocked. Just want to :puke:

I am a Nurse and have worked in a nursing homes and sometimes deal with the disabled and comatose. I was always been very protective toward those in my care. Our male aides were not allowed to bath female patients or be in the room with them alone. Sometimes it was a pain in the butt to schedule but we really tried hard to protect them. And by George, I checked them routinely for any signs of assault.

I have talked to those that have emerged from comas. They can feel and sense what is going on, they just can't respond. That is what makes this crime so heinous.

31. they condone that rape in group homes in Texas.
I have a friend who has a 35 yr old retarded autistic daughter. She refuses to put her daughter in a group home, state sponsored, in Texas.

A friend of hers went to a state home for the retarded. There were men there, patients, surrounding their car. They went in the administrator's office to talk about putting their daughter there. The administrator said they would put the daughter on birth control pills, but would not do anything to prevent male inmates from raping her.

They got up and walked out, thoroughly disgusted.

:wtf:

It ain't much, but I give the guy in Texas at least a couple of brownie points for ADMITTING it. Similar policies exist elsewhere, but the administrators lie like Republicans about it. Perjure themselves in court, even. Not to mention punishing the women for being promiscuous.

Well, if I can't condone the death penalty, and I can't condone torture...

I guess the only thing left is a lobotomy - complete, thorough medical destruction of all the brain responsible for voluntary activity, sexuality, and violence. But not conscious awareness.

And I don't think the public should have to pay for aftercare either.
