Gov.-elect Robert Bentley...says only Christians are his 'brothers and sisters'
Source: Brimingham News

MONTGOMERY -- Gov.-elect Robert Bentley in a speech at a Baptist church this afternoon said he plans to be the governor of all Alabamians and be color-blind, but he also said people who aren't ''saved" Christians aren't his brothers and sisters.

Bentley told a big crowd at Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, where the late civil rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once was pastor, that he believed it was important for Alabamians ''that we love and care for each other."

...snip...

Then Bentley, who for years has been a deacon at First Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, gave what sounded like an altar call.

...snip...

Bentley added, ''Now I will have to say that, if we don't have the same daddy, we're not brothers and sisters. So anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I'm telling you, you're not my brother and you're not my sister, and I want to be your brother."

I'm sure the 400,000 non-religious and non-Chirstians in Alabama (as well as those who don't fall into Bentley's exacting standards of Christianity) feel well-represented by their Government.

2. One problem I see.
Many groups such as Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, and other groups also "clam" to be christians, yet most so called christians don't accept them as being "real" christians. Even some of the more mainstream religions who differ in their beliefs claim they are the "only" real christians just like the Jehovah's Witnesses do. These groups that "claim" they are the only real christians, no matter if they are main stream or cult types, say pretty much the same thing as the Gov. elect, that only those who are "saved" by their standards are "real" christians and their brothers and sisters!

We also have to remember that the tea party crowd has already gone after religious groups that don't "think" like they do!

32. I was in Kosciuscko once.
Kosciusko, Mississippi.
Took grandma to her Sixtieth high school reunion. This was in the 1970s.

We stayed with a lady that was her cousin.

After I got back I decided that Texas, by comparison, was a bastion of enlightenment and acceptance.

Those people talked like black people were not really people.

:banghead:

In fact, I confronted one of them for their illogical statements, and my grandmother apologized BEHIND MY BACK for what I said. Pissed me off greatly.

27. The people who voted for him will love it
The people who didn't will hate it. Since the people who voted for him are in the majority it won't hurt him at all.

In Alabama its all about God, guns and gays. If you love the first two and hate the last one then you will get elected.

(My apologies to Lord Jesus . . . . ) as Bentley very clearly demonstrates, fucks like this governor don't know shit about Yeshua; that's why I compare the governor to Lazarus, who was dead. It remains to be seen if Jesus will get to him before he rots utterly.

Bet he doesn't see Catholics as 'True Christians', most Southern Baptists see Catholicism as a cult.

If you don't think his personal religious beliefs cloud his judgment, just like other fundamentalists, I have a bridge for sale.

39. The metaphorical sense of the words brother and sister...
Which implies an extended sense of kinship regardless of genetic heritage. And then doubling back on that by saying that a separate attribute(belief in the Jesus character) is actual where said kinship is based. It's really quite divisive. I don't think this guy even finds this kind of divisive mentality to be a negative thing.

Ala. gov.: Non-Christians 'not my brother'
Published: Jan. 18, 2011 at 9:07 PM

MONTGOMERY, Ala., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley has drawn criticism for saying anyone who "has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior" is not his brother or sister.

Bentley, speaking Monday at the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church in Montgomery, said he was elected as a Republican but will be "the governor of all the people," the Birmingham News reported.

"I am colorblind," Bentley told an audience at the church where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was once the pastor.

Speaking prior to being sworn in as governor, Bentley -- who is a deacon at First Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa -- told his audience "if you're a Christian and if you're saved, and the Holy Spirit lives within you just like the Holy Spirit lives within me, then you know what that makes? It makes you and me brothers. And it makes you and me brother and sister.

45. Apparently this moran has never read Luke 10:25-37
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
