GOP freshmen drive cuts to social programs
Budget: Many issues friendly to business
ANDREW TAYLOR; The Associated Press | • Published February 20, 2011

WASHINGTON – The GOP-run House, jolted by freshmen determined to drive down the deficit, snatched $61 billion from hundreds of federal programs while shielding coal companies, oil refiners and farms from new federal regulations.

Passage early Saturday of the $1.2 trillion bill, covering every Cabinet agency through Sept. 30, when the current budget year ends, sent the measure to the Senate, where it faces longer odds, and defied a White House veto threat.

The largely party-line vote of 235-189 was the most striking victory to date for the 87 freshman Republicans elected last fall on a promise to attack the deficit and reduce the reach of government. Three Republicans joined Democrats in opposing the measure.

The legislation imposes severe spending cuts on domestic programs and foreign aid. Targets include schools, nutrition programs, environmental protection, and heating and housing subsidies for the poor.

1. The thing is, why is that ugly.
By the feelings from the image, or because of the judgment in the episode.

It is a two prong explanation in that episode. First they show the reasons for those peoples ugliness, then they give a visceral reinforcement at that part of the episode.

What is ugly about that person is thinking everyone has to be the same to be beautiful. And those are sad eyes, so that would be the problem in that picture, and where he can be helped.

2. HOW MANY
How many of these freshman received their education using state and federal grants? Tell those that did they should return the money with interest for starters. They should also give up their tax payer funded health care and retirement along with the added benefits of having someone else do their own office work and give up their tax payer funded car and housing etc.

3. Note: freshmen
In other words, they aren't used to having their legislation go off to die in the Senate. A great many things get passed by the House that will never see the light of day.

That said, we need to put pressure on the GOP, day after day, week after week, month after month, until they dislodge their collective heads from their collective rear ends, and/or are defeated.

6. Yes, I don't think most people realize this.
The media has been nuts about the tea party because it provides drama, but it's total astroturf. The more letters to the editor/opinion pieces that get the word out, the better.

9. This should be a huge gift to Democrats - but Democrats are too stupid to use it!
If Obama and every Democrat came out calling Republicans on their attempt to turn America into a third world nation, they would easily win over the American people.

If it was presented as Republicans attacking the foundation of American society, and endangering children, sending jobs overseas, and attacking social programs for seniors and the middle class. How much easier could the right make it for Democrats to define the right wing as anti-American and out of touch?

If only we had a strong leader in the White House, the tea party would be the best gift that the Democrats every got.

10. If only we had a strong leader in the White House,
The media would still only cover the Teabaggers.

There needs to be an attack on the media. It needs to be broken up, Ownership exemptions nixed for Murdoch and anyone else, and some sort of "fairness doctrine" enforced.

12. What a surprise...
Republicrats always go after social programs first.

It's like they are allergic to the idea of it.

13. No, they go after social programs last - after they have used them!
Extreme right winters are typically older. They have lived off the social programs for all their lives and now they don't want the next generation to have the same benefits they had.
