Child-Product Makers Seek to Soften New Rules
By ANDREW MARTIN
Published: February 21, 2011

Emboldened by a Republican majority in the House of Representatives, manufacturers of toys and other children’s products are making a last-ditch effort to quash new safety regulations that they say are unfair or too onerous.

A toy factory in China. Some manufacturers say that tough rules spurred by a wave of Chinese toy recalls are too onerous.

Among their primary targets is a new public database, operated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and scheduled to go online in three weeks, that would allow the public to search for injury reports on products like cribs and strollers.

2. Just when I think they couldn't get more evil...

Now they want to gut safety regulations governing products for children. This from the party of Family Values. I guess they don't care about kids who choke on toys or get strangled in strollers or whose pajamas catch fire. Dead kids are just a cost of doing business, unless, of course, they haven't been born yet. Then the GOPers figure that their mothers can die if that's necessary to protect them so they'll live long enough to be born and then get their heads stuck in the slats of a defective crib.

Have I ever mentioned how much I hate these people?

3. Looks like the fix is on....
I read the story and looks like it's both parties are caving to the corporate "pressure", which means threats of contributions being cut off.
