Koch Industries accused of polluting waterway
Source: CBS News

A Koch Industries paper mill is violating the Clean Water Act by pumping out massive amounts of pollution into an Arkansas waterway, according to an EPA enforcement complaint to be filed tomorrow by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) and the Ouachita Riverkeeper.

The complaint alleges that a Georgia-Pacific paper mill on the Coffee Creek in Arkansas - owned by the billionaire Koch Brothers -emits 45 million gallons of paper mill waste including hazardous materials like ammonia, chloride, and mercury each day

Coffee Creek then flows into Louisiana's Ouachita River where the pollutants have left the formerly pristine water speckled with odorous foam, slime and black pockets of water, said Jerry Johnson, who has been visiting the Ouachita River for 35 years.

"People used to swim in it," said Johnson, who now lives along the river. "In the summertime, it was the place to go."

But Johnson said the number of visitors has dwindled as the river conditions continued to grow worse, preventing the area from reaching its full economic potential as a vacation destination. The pollution is so bad it has kept Johnson from fishing in the river.

18. My sentiments exactly!
Didn't they try to get execs of fracking companies to drink tap water from homes near fracking wells in the movie GasLand? They, of course, flat out refused (while at the same time claiming how completely safe it was). Those fucks (Kochs included) should be required to drink nothing but that water until they stop this shit.

5. Is this a surprise to anyone?
The Koch's are evil evil fucks, and if given real power I would say they are as evil as Hitler, but in a different way. They will not gather up certain groups for extermination, they are trying to exterminate us all through pollution, starvation and other global warming things.

10. Go get 'em!
It's notable that CBS News actually mentioned that the mill is owned by the Kochs. They could have just said "a Georgia-Pacific paper mill" and left it at that. But they specifically mentioned the Kochs and referred to them as "the Billionaire Koch Brothers".

Thanks to Ian Murphy and the gullibility of Scott Walker and his staff, the name Koch now attracts readers and viewers, which means that the name Koch will be mentioned in the media anytime it's relevant to the story. In fact, many in the media will be digging for stories about them.

They can no longer weave their plans and commit their crimes in obscurity.

11. Wait ...
Isn't it common knowledge now that Koch is synonymous with polluting everything from environment to politics?

I think it is a verifiable fact that they are totally toxic to anything that resembles DEMOCRACY.

Just sayin' ...

23. What would it cost to be good citizens when running a company?
Obviously, it would cost more than it costs to buy a big bunch of politicians and one huge Tea Party.

17. In the March 3 edition of The Beacon (Mendocino)
I read that the Georgia Pacific Mill in Ft Bragg, Ca (polluted, good for nothing now and probably forever) is owned by "the infamous Koch Bros, huge funders of the right wing Tea Party and Wisconsin Gov." I am witness to the degradation that has happened there, if not by them, them some other not quite as huge (Gap? Mendocino Redwood) Company.

19. K&R.
And sadly, they've probably factored pollution fines into the cost of production.

Just pay a few thousand and carry on as usual.

20. Indict the Koch brothers already.
Even throw 'em in prison for life for this! 20,000 counts of polluting the water, $1 trillion fine, upheld but the US Supreme Court.

Now, pay up, fucker!
