Bomb undiscovered for weeks at Detroit fed building
Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - A package found by a security guard at a federal office building in Detroit sat three weeks before someone thought to screen it and found it was a bomb, an official who represents unionized guards said on Wednesday.

A private contract guard, since suspended, apparently found the package outside in late February, said David Wright, president of the union that represents Federal Protective Service guards but not contract guards.

The building in downtown Detroit houses offices for the FBI, U.S. Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan, the Social Security Administration and others.

2. The private contract guard wasn't properly trained. So many times they're
just kids and get paid crap. The contractor should be held responsible.

Why did the Fed building have private security help, anyway? The government should support the Unions! (At least where an influential Dem has his office - I wouldn't expect the Republicans to comply.)

7. Might not have a timer.
It might have been set to explode when opened.

10. Some years ago, when I worked for a federal agency that shall remain
nameless, we got a telephoned bomb threat. Our chief of security (trained, educated, retired military, high pay grade) sent our secretary to the ladies' room to poke around in the trash container to see if there were any strange packages in there. So help me goddess!
