Fukushima radiation detected in UK

Radioactive iodine has been detected in the air of Glasgow following damage to the Fukushima plant, hit by a 9.0 magnitude quake earlier this month.

The leaking radiation was picked up by hi-tech surveillance equipment at a lab in south Glasgow. It was discovered during regular routine checks for pollution in the air.

Radiation has also been detected in Oxfordshire, according to the Health Protection Agency.

The radiation in Japan is so severe there is a 12-mile exclusion zone around the plant and UK nationals have been advised to stay outside of a 50-mile radius.

I've heard blips about CA and CO but have no idea "how it's spreading" ... over the north pole? With the prevailing current?

This radiation will spread everywhere. Locally, the information about the amount of radiation is useful. As headline after headline, posted here, it's not really that useful. In all cases, except in Japan, the quantity will almost certainly be below levels that really require any action on the part of local residents, such as taking potassium iodide pills.

The disastrous incident is, and will remain a disastrous incident. Nuclear power generation is not safe, has never been safe, and can never be made to be safe. That minuscule amounts of radiation appear in Topeka does not change that, nor does it require any particular response.

11. I feel I'm in the dark...

So many reports about the radiation and trace amounts being discovered all over CA and other parts of the US and World; but how detrimental to society and the health of everyone will these "trace amounts" equate to? Some folks say oh there's nothing to worry about, while others are afraid to keep their fruits and veggies outside now for fear of radiation tainted rain...

Are these both sides of the spectrum here? Where/when do we begin worrying here?

13. Iodine 131 has a half life of 8 days

and by the time it reaches the US its age has probably close to or past that.

according to the article we have the dust particles coming over too. I fear that too, as I do a lot of outdoor activities (including a 10k last weekend).
