No evidence Gaddafi's son killed: NATO
Source: Sydney Morning Herald

May 2, 2011 - 9:44AM

NATO officials say they have no evidence that an airstrike killed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi's son and three grandchildren, and the military alliance refuses to say what kind of aircraft were involved in the attack.

What the Libyan government called a residence - where Gaddafi's son, Saif al-Arab, and three grandchildren lived when the structure was struck on Saturday night - was a command and control centre with a bunker underneath, NATO and US officials said.

=snip=

"We have seen no evidence of civilian casualties," a NATO official said.

=snip=

The officials said they couldn't say the regime was lying, simply that they couldn't confirm the claims.

2. underground structures can withtand tornados. why they've don't mandate
the creation of underground tornado shelters is beyond me. It would create jobs & also protect people & hopefully the family dog/cat/bird/etc. Plus with modern equipment......only a couple of digs by a backhoe....

7. I certainly believe Qadhafi over NATO in this instance.
NATO and the US slaughter, then they deny it. Same thing with Qadhafi's daughter years ago.

Qadhafi and his family are known to spend a lot of time in fortified bunkers. You were expecting a bungalow? Esp. in the middle of a war?

9. are you expecting to peak in the casket?
He's presumably already buried, since the Qadhafis are Muslim.

10. besides, who said he was the favorite son?
Although it's irrelevant, people presumably don't alter funeral plans for that, I think you have him confused with Saif al-Islam Qadhafi.

13. Saif al-Arab death confirmed
ROME: The most senior Catholic official in Tripoli on Sunday confirmed on Italian television that Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi's son Saif al-Arab had been killed and appealed for a ceasefire.

"I confirm the death of the son of the leader," Giovanni Martinelli, the bishop of Tripoli, told the Sky TG24 channel.

French surgeon Gerrard Le Clouerec, who does not work for the Libyan government, was asked to independently identify the bodies of Saif al-Arab and two children. He said all three had died due to a blast. He said the children's faces had been obliterated by the blast so they were difficult to identify.

Le Clouerec said he also saw the body of a young man of about 30, with a beard and a thin moustache whose face matched a photograph he had been shown of Saif al-Arab.

14. It's 2 unidentifiable children now & a confirmation from a photo they had shown the French surgeon?
Edited on Mon May-02-11 10:22 PM by Turborama
You do realize they could show him any photo they wanted to, don't you?

It was originally 3 grandchildren and I have difficulty believing the Bishop of Tripoli, who is a friend of Gaddafi.

In his own words from your own http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/middle-east/Bishop-confirms-Gaddafi-sons-death-calls-for-ceasefire/articleshow/8138218.cms">link, ""He is a great friend and we must help him find a form of dialogue" with the international community, said the bishop."
