Barney Frank On Cantor Crediting Bush For Killing Bin Laden: ‘That’s Just Sad’

....................House Majority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) said in a statement, “I commend President Obama who has followed the vigilance of President Bush in bringing Bin Laden to justice.”

ThinkProgress asked Rep. Barney Frank (R-MA) to respond to Cantor’s comment and Frank didn’t mince words:

FRANK: Well first of all, I think, let’s give discredit where it is due. For Eric Cantor to phrase it that way, to say he followed the vigilance of President Bush is a degree of key partisanship that exceeded what I even expected from Cantor. That’s just sad. <...>

If Bush had gotten Osama after Clinton had failed do you think Eric Cantor would’ve given Clinton credit and said, “Oh good Bush got Osama bin Laden, he showed the same vigilance as Bill Clinton”? No. Not even close.

6. A great many of those who
reside on the right side of the aisle are trying desperately to get GWB into the spotlight on this. We should just resurrect the quote from 2002 where * says "He's not important any more" or words to that effect, and reply, GWB didn't care............ :bounce:

9. I wonder about the sole
attempt that Britain INSISTED upon of pursuing Al Qaeda in Afghanistan first. Was the rush to wrap up the campaign the reason the Tora Bora siege bungled? Sure the army didn't want to risk heavy losses inside that maze, but how much was due to the poor management back in Washington? Certainly didn't care about losses in Iraq which had no nukes and nothing to do with 911 or Al Qaeda. Bush wouldn't even have pursued Osama at all if it hadn't been for Tony Blair. In words and actions, bungling 911 in the first place, exactly where did Bush show focus on the end or succeed in any way in getting Bin Laden?

If the parties and policies were reversed, the Dems would be defenseless as inveterate GOP liars and scoundrels seem never to be. Denial and assuming of credit shows their only consistence is setting the truth on its head.

No one making today's typical talking points can be trusted to run anything or display any grace or fairness. Same low expectations for much of the royalist media as well.

14. If bush had read and understood intelligence like Obama, 9/11 might have been avoided.

I imagine right wingers will be saying a lot of unbelievable chit to recover some sense of pride -- but it ain't gonna work except with the sheeple. I wonder what asses like Limbaugh are saying.

16. President Obama did not follow booosh's lead. He made the capture
of OBL the priority and handed it over to a law enforcement agency, the CIA, instead of to the Pentagon who took the whole military along with them on the search. He made it a issue of law instead of a military issue. Which should have been done from day one.

18. followed the vigilance of President Bush
Imagine if Dubya had followed CLINTON'S VIGILANCE on terror. We might not have had a 9/11.... and killed Bin Laden years ago.

Paging Richard Clark....!

I'm sure, Obama has been way more vigilant than Bush ever was....

....now watch this drive......

There's plenty of video out there that the MSM can show to refresh his memory. Stupid pukes, just don't know when to sit back and just keep their mouths shut.

24. I'm trying to imagine if it were the other way around...
If Obama was President and failed to get Osama and then Bush came in later and killed Osama.

ZERO Republicans would be praising Obama.
ZERO Democrats would be praising Obama.

What is up with these stupid Republicans?

25. Bush wouldn't have killed Bin Laden, not only was he a family friend, he provided the PNACers
with their Pearl Harbor like event that they wished for so badly (LIHOP, MIHOP anyone?) and helped them make their wet dream of conquering the Middle East a reality. Oh yeah, that last thing didn't happen--the kind of disappointment all too frequent for those who think reality can be created just by their wishes.

Cantor is just a nincompoop. He's got good frontman looks, and that's it.
