Record 312 Twisters in a Single Day, U.S. Says
Edited on Mon May-02-11 08:56 PM by Stuart G
Source: MSNBC

It looks like last week's tornado outbreak was the biggest on record for a single 24-hour period, federal experts said Monday.

Preliminary estimates counted 312 tornadoes from 8 a.m. ET on April 27 to 8 a.m. on April 28, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said. That's far above the previous record of 148 twisters in 1974.

Over a 48-hour window, the total appears to be 362, NOAA stated.

1. What really irks is that CNN weatherman never mentioned climate change
when asked why there were so many. One even said that it wasn't that there were more hurricanes but that hurricane reporting is better.

3. Probably scared of the last time they got bit
by claiming climate change was the cause of everything.

Remember after Katrina when they said it was because of climate change, and hurricanes would be getting worse?

And then the next hurricane season was dead, and the next one was lame too...

They would rather people forget the claims they made.

4. That comment doesn't make sense in the context of hurricanes, but could with respect to tornadoes.
A friend of mine who works for the NWS explained it to me. Improving technology and more amateur storm chasers on the ground definitely have an impact on reporting numbers increasing. Tornadoes are not as easy to confirm as hurricanes. The increase could have to do with climate change, but because of these factors it would be irresponsible to say definitively that it does.

6. One of the predicted effects of Global Warming is more severe storms
I am also amazed at how the weather "experts" do not attribute this to Global Warming. Brian Williams, two nights in a row, asked their expert at the Weather Channel, "What is causing the large number and severity of these tornados". The first night the expert answered "moisture from the Gulf". What a copout. The second night the expert, amongst other things, did say the words "a warmer earth". But he buried that phrase in his explanation.

HE NEVER SAID THE WORDS: "GLOBAL WARMING".
The Corporate News Media is just afraid to say those words, or maybe they are not allowed to by their overseers.
