Rep. Ryan orders protesters with disabilities arrested
Source: CNN iReport

“I think it is ridiculous we have to get arrested to be able to talk to our members of Congress. But Medicaid funding means life and death for seniors and people with disabilities so, if arrests are necessary, we will do it again,” said Bruce Darling, an organizer with Rochester, NY. ADAPT, who spent the night jailed.

Under the Ryan Plan, Medicaid programs would be cut by 35%, which translates to a loss of $772 billion in human services. Additionally, the Ryan Plan proposes a system of Medicaid block grants for states—giving states greater ability to make cuts.

Of the 60 million people counting on Medicaid right now, 8.5 million are people with disabilities; 8.8 million are low income, frail, elderly and disabled individuals who rely on Medicaid to plug the gaps in Medicare coverage, such as long term care. Medicaid pays for vital services to assist people with intellectual disabilities to live and work in the community rather than be forced into an institution; and screening programs to identify and diagnose disabilities for children

And how many tax dollars will Mr. Budget Hawk be spending to jail these peaceful, nonviolent protesters??

8. It didn't say what they did to get arrested.
They probably didn't get arrested simply for protesting. People usually get arrested for interfering with others' rights....like interfering with a meeting or a speech or blocking entrances, etc.

10. Name an instance in recent years where people were arrested for protesting...
where they weren't interfering with someone else's rights.

arrested pre-crime style? It's amazing to me how people can still be this clueless after the bush years:

Before the convention began, search warrants were executed by Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher<49> in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.<50> Six persons who were a part of the organizing group, the RNC Welcoming Committee, were arrested when police executed search warrants on a handful of homes in Minneapolis and Saint Paul during the weekend preceding the convention.<51>

Media outlets reported on several of the searches.<52> Given the nature of the probable cause for the warrant applications, a district court judge authorized no-knock warrants. Police entered the homes wearing body armor with weapons drawn, which is standard for no-knock warrants.<52> RNC Welcoming Committee members detained at the group's headquarters, located in an old theater on Saint Paul's West Side, were ultimately arrested by Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher of misdemeanor fire code violations.<52>

Or these people?:

Numerous troubling cases were reported, notably:

* A 15-year-old diabetic girl on her way to a movie was arrested.<38>
* A former vice president of Morgan Stanley was arrested while riding her bicycle.<38>
* A 16-year-old protestor was lost to her mother for two days, even though her mother knew about and supported her daughter's participation.<39>

15. Actually, they were arrested for being in the building.

....Members intend to crowd the House building until they are spoken to by congressional leaders, Ryan or the president or until they are arrested....

Yes, they showed up 300 strong and were arrested a few hours later for refusing to leave at 6:30.

Those pesky whining people in wheelchairs are ALWAYS depriving SOMEONE of their rights, dammit! Makes you just want to make them disappear. Then we could get after people on crutches, people who wear glasses, too tall, too short, too fat, too thin. "Will there be anything else, Mr. Pot?" "No, we welcome Mr. Ryan and his friends to our way of thinking - 'To keep you is no benefit, to destroy you is no loss.'"

Just for the record, what is your preference for personal space?
