WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican Mike Huckabee announced on Saturday he would not seek his party's U.S. presidential nomination in 2012, adding uncertainty to the race to pick a challenger to President Barack Obama.

"I will not seek the Republican nomination for president this year," he said on his Fox News Channel television show.

Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, had been riding high in some 2012 polls among Republicans. But he had not been raising funds or touring the country as he wrestled over whether to launch a second run for his party's nomination or stick with his Fox show, "Huckabee."

At this point no GOP candidate who is serious about being president of the US will run in 2012. It'll be a bunch of jokes and also-rans who have nothing to win or lose by running in 2012.

12. With "Citizens United", We Cannot Take Anything for Granted

"Citizens United" opened the floodgates for unlimited corporate money to flow to the Republicans.
Even foreign interests can join in, like all those places our jobs are going to. They'll want to keep them coming.

We cannot take anything for granted anymore. Ted Kennedy's seat is now held by a Repubican in what was once the most Democratic state in the US.
We got decimated in the 2010 elections. Even Russ Feingold lost. The Repigs now control 27 state governments totally, putting them in a great
position to gerrymander and impose new restrictions on voting. Beyond that they are taking over Democratic strongholds and replacing their
local governments with Republican functionaries. Who knows what they will do to swing the elections their way.

There are no safe seats, and no sure winners on our side anymore.

I think Obama can still win, but it won't be easy. He knows this, which is why he is going to try to raise a billion dollars for his campaign.
That will still be far less than the Republicans will get, but it will hopefully be enough to keep us in the game.

Taking back the House will be harder, as will holding the Senate.

We can expect to be outspent by at least 4 to 1, more like 10 to 1 in the Presidential race and any other important ones.

28. We have seen Citizens United or something similar at work here

in a local school district election between a right-wing, charter-school fanatic and a normal teacher. The right-winger is apparently an employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District administration. His only classroom experience was as a substitute. He and his wealthy supporters have flooded our community with slick advertising materials. It's just sickening. I am really worried that he could win on Tuesday.

One thing is true. The repugthugs in the know, know this is nearly their last chance to gain control of the government. With emerging minorities voting almost exclusively Democratic they will try their damnedest to inhibit voter turnout. Even turning someone off enough to get them to not show up works. Quite well actually. Many people I know well want little or nothing to do with politics. And if asked, they take the road of "I am an independent."
It is simply to late to remain apathetic on these issues of such great importance. Even within our party with all our myriad of prospectivesnwe MUST go in the same direction.

House in the 2010 election. And many were sure that there was no way that a Republican could win a Senate seat from Massachusetts.

President Obama is probably the favorite at this point but too much can happen between now and November 2012 to be able to make any predictions with certainty. In politics that's an eternity.

He's supposedly secured endorsements from Barbour, Walker and Jindal. I bet Huckabee will throw in with him next, just in time for the rollout of their supposedly 'respectable' frontrunner.
