ICC to investigate institutionalized gang-rape of women in Libya
Source: CNN

The Hague, Netherlands (CNN) -- Security forces in Libya are allegedly using sexual enhancement drugs as a "machete" and gang-raping women they stop at checkpoints, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has said.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo told CNN Monday that the court in The Hague will investigate allegations of institutionalized rape in the war-torn country.

"There are rapes. The issue is who organized them," Luis Moreno-Ocampo told CNN's Nic Robertson. "They were committed in some police barracks. Were the policemen prosecuted? What happened?" he asked.

Moreno-Ocampo said the criminal court has information about women who were stopped at checkpoints and, because they were carrying the flag of the rebels, were taken by police and gang raped.

3. Rape, the Incubator Babies of 2011
People are falling for propaganda out of Libya just as they were out of Iraq. I remember well the outrage when a weeping young girl reported Iraqi soldiers storming a children's hospital in Kuwait, and dumping babies out of the incubators and leaving them to die on the cold floor. LATER we found out she was the daughter of the Kuwaiti Ambassador to the US, and had not been in Kuwait at the time she reported witnessing this event. No other sources substantiated her story. It was pure BS, designed to get us into a war.

There is no evidence of this outlandish undertaking by the Libyan army. After these baroque allegations were raised by US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Powers - Obama's John Bolton - they were debunked by intelligence sources. There is no evidence that they are true. People in Libya are telling lies, and our press is printing them - just like in the last bunch of quagmires we've let our pols lead us into.

Viagra is no more being issued to the Libyan Army to rape 4 year olds (as Powers alleged) than Saddam Hussein had nuclear centrifuges buried under rose bushes.

This is just sensationalistic, emotional crap, specifically crafted to get American progressives to support Obama's "humanitarian" wars. George W was already dishing this crap out to progressives years ago, by saying we were in Afghanistan so little girls could go to school and reach their full potential. Suuure we are....

Just because rapes occur doesn't mean every story of rape in war is true. Just because you are sold on hating Gaddafi and are willing to believe any terrible thing you hear about him doesn't mean that every terrible thing he is accused of is true.

We're being manipulated into (a) wider, longer war(s).

Time Magazine tells us we must stay in Afghanistan to save beautiful Afghan women from being mutilated by their husbands and male relatives. Seriously - do you think Time would put an AMERICAN woman on the cover of their magazine who had been mutilated by her husband? Certainly not if she was a poor, uneducated and/or unattractive American woman, say, black, or white trailer trash. No - Americans wouldn't be interested in that scarred woman. Our representatives would rather make the tough decision to close our community health clinics, cut Medicaid, shut shelters that serve American women, even our own female soldiers - so we have enough tax payer money to save Muslim women from sexually repressed Muslim men (as the Neo-Con/Neo-Liberal meme goes).

"Chookie - are you saying you are PRO-RAPE????!!!!!" No - just saying this story coming out of Libya is pure BS - and urging all to please be skeptical about what you read. Just because it emotionally resonates with you personally doesn't make it true.

4. Your assertions, sir, in this case do not seem credible to me
Edited on Tue May-17-11 11:14 PM by al bupp
The charges are being made by a credible international organization, and are backed-up by a the well-known case of Iman al-Obeidi, and numerous reports from individuals w/in Libya, as reported by Aljazeera and others.

5. Yep, Gaddafi + company are just victims of imperialist propaganda
The west is just trying to overturn Gaddafi's socialist utopia, brainwashing the masses into taking up arms against his democratic wonderland thanks to drug-laced nescafe.
