Yale suspends Bushes' fraternity for sexist chants
Source: AP via Yahoo!

A prestigious Yale fraternity that counts both Bush presidents among its alumni is being banned from recruiting and activities on campus for five years after pledges were ordered to chant obscenities against women.

Yale says it has also disciplined several Delta Kappa Epsilon members and asked the fraternity's national office to suspend the chapter for five years.

The fraternity came under fire in October after pledges marched through campus and chanted phrases about sex acts including necrophilia. Chapter leaders later apologized, and the national fraternity office ordered them only to stop all pledge activities....

The students cite incidents in which fraternity members held up a sign saying, "We love Yale sluts" outside a women's center and chanted "no means yes" on campus last fall. They also say incoming female freshmen were ranked on attractiveness.

Actually, according to the Yale alumni magazine (Class of '85 here), they chanted "no means yes, yes means anal".

Good riddance. I always wondered why Yale brought back frats in the first place (they were banned altogether in the '70s and '80s).

5. Well, in fairness
I can't remember ever hearing Republicans actually claim that they respected women.

6. U of Mich grad here
Dekes were always the dissipated drunks with the wildest parities.

Entitled "Richies" for the most part and possessing the best "Velvet Hammers" in the communal punch bowl.

I'm sure I had lots of fun -- wish I could remember. But I do remember that initial buzz from the velvet hammer. I think it was a deadly combo of beer and champagne and other sundry libations.

Made it back to the dorm - probably because I was a skinny geek with thick glasses, but my roommate had to sneak in the next morning.

We are talking the prehistoric age, when dorms were sex segregated and had hours, before Tom Hayden cut his political teeth in a campaign to eliminate late penalties for women at UM.

Aah -- the "good" old days. So tame compared to what is described in this article.

Sorority girls? I must admit I did have a thing for a few of them, back in the day (at my previous college). :loveya:

19. Pretty funny
Reminds me of an evening many years ago. A male friend was railing about conservatives and how much he hated them and then an attractive young woman (whom we knew was a conservative) showed up. The aforementioned friend didn't have a word to say about politics for the rest of the night.

18. Way to generalize there
Tolerant, much?

I pledged my fraternity back in the 80's - just a bunch of regular guys, ethnically diverse (white, hispanic, native american, asian, black), most for middle class or working class backgrounds.

I've never detected much of difference between your average student involved in Greek life and your average student not involved in Greek life.

12. can't say "yes means anal" on a general audience web site Yahoo News
so that's why they left that part out. I wonder when Frat Boy George will intervene and lobby to reverse the decision.
