Seaholm High student to be arraigned in racial intimidation case

A warrant for one count of ethnic intimidation was issued against a Seaholm High School student for writing threats against black students at the Birmingham school.

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper announced today that Courtney Isaiah Thomas, 18, is scheduled to be arraigned in 48th District Court on Wednesday. Ethnic intimidation is a felony that carries a maximum two-year prison sentence upon conviction.

Seaholm administrators found threats against five African-American students written on a boys’ bathroom wall at Seaholm on April 20. Thomas is not in custody.

Birmingham Police Detective Al Smith appeared in 48th District Court today and said Thomas, who is black, has been indefinitely suspended from Seaholm. Thomas gave a “verbal admission” and provided a written statement about the incident, Smith said
