Obama Gets Big Bump In Florida, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds
Edited on Thu May-26-11 06:57 PM by alp227
Source: Quinnipiac University

President Barack Obama's job approval rating in Florida is 51 - 43 percent approve, a jump from his negative 44 - 52 percent score April 7, before the killing of Osama bin Laden, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson holds leads ranging from 20 to 25 points over his three potential Republican challengers for re-election in 2012, according to the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University survey.

In a matchup of the three Republicans competing for the GOP nomination to run against Sen. Nelson, the winner is "don't know" which gets 64 percent of the vote. State Senate President Mike Haridopolos gets 13 percent, former Sen. George LeMieux receives 14 percent and former state House majority leader Adam Hasner gets 4 percent.

President Obama's improved job rating in Florida is largely due to a big swing among independent voters, from a negative 39 - 55 percent April 7 to a split 47 - 45 percent today. Democrats now approve of the president's performance 86 - 11 percent compared to 79 - 16 percent in April. Republicans disapprove 84 - 13 percent, unchanged from April.

1. If thats real.. its hugh!!11!11
If Florida goes Obama.. its over. There are no plausible scenarios for a GOP candidate to win without FL.

8. True.. but the win in NY 26th on Tuesday gives me hope that even those tactics may not work anymore.
But, yes, those are concerns.. but if he maintains an approval like that, he will be hard to beat even with GOP cheating.

3. Could be a side benefit from Scott
Our newly "elected" governor, Rick Scott is almost universally despised in the state right now. Even some repukes hate him!
This may be resulting in more people fleeing from any republican.

4. Some Polls Maybe.... but things are getting worse in the State....
Unemployment UP... spending down. (No surprise following $4 gas)

Anything Obama can do will be dwarfed by draconian Rick Scott.. who is running the State into the ground in hyper-rocket mode.

5. Jacksonville just elected an African American Democratic Mayor
he beat a "friend of Rick Scott" to become the first Dem in 2 decades and the first black mayor

People are sick of the repukes and this was a proxy election if ever there was one

btw, Scott's approval numbers are in the mid 20's

10. The Republicans will sit in stunned amazement when President Obama is elected to a second term
The Republicans with a political careerer to protect are taking themselves out of the running as quickly as they can. They want a candidate that will take the hit from an un-winnable election, but not mess it up for people in Congressional races. It will be the last election run by the next Republican Presidential nominee.

13. Threaten Social Security and Medicare and the seniors finally wake
up. Some of us seniors did not forget who got us these programs in the first place.

14. That it took this long for Florida to realize that the republicans want to destroy Medicare and
Social Security, does not reflect well on their ability for critical thinking
