Measles outbreak prompts plea to vaccinate children (UK)

Parents in England and Wales are being urged to have their children vaccinated after a tenfold rise in measles cases in the first three months of the year.

The Health Protection Agency reported 334 cases compared with 33 in the similar period last year.

The outbreak is thought to be linked to an epidemic in France, where 7,000 cases have been reported since January - more than in the whole of 2010.

The HPA says it is "crucial" that those at risk are fully immunised.

That's a fact.

That child may have been particular vulnerable to the measles virus, and in that case, s/he might have died or suffered permanent after-effects, such as hearing or visual impairments without vaccination.

A classmate of mine lost her two-year-old sister to measles in the days before vaccines, and when I had it at age 9, it was by far the worst illness of my life before or since. Children with measles had to be kept in darkened rooms because of fear of eye damage.

my daughter just got immunized this year and is 3 but that is common here in france, perhaps we do vaccines in a different order?
