Report: Emails show Murdoch editor knew of bribes

London police have proof in smoking-gun emails that former News of the World editor Andy Coulson knew of bribes paid to police officers, Reuters reported Thursday.

The evidence, Reuters said, comes in an email exchange between Coulson – who after leaving the paper became spokesman for a time for now-Prime Minister David Cameron – and Clive Goodman, the paper’s then-royals correspondent.

Messages show the two discussing “paying a police contact for restricted information, including phone numbers, of members of the British royal family,” Reuters said.

The email traffic shows Coulson and Goodman discussed a “four figure sum” in exchange for for a confidential information about the movements, locations and phone numbers of members of the royal family.

7. Holder is there, devising some way to get them off the hook
People are waking up... I'm actually suprised as to how many people know what's going on. I actually taked to a republican at length about how our country has been taken over by corporate interests... and he's pissed. I think our government underestimates the seathing hatred and the awerness of American citizens. The wealthy should be very afraid.

8. This is the only way Obama can get re-elected
As pissed off progressives threaten to sit the next election out, Obama needs to do something to neutralize the right wing spin machine. He may just be smart enough to realize this and decide it's time for the knives to come out with FOX.

If Rupert were deported where would he go? Surely he would be welcome back somewhere in the Commonwealth.

10. Roll, Coulson, Roll
Until Coulson or one of his other editors roll over and implicate Murdoch -- or better yet, there is email proof-- he still has plausible deniability. Coulson, Brooks, or one of the others needs to turn State's evidence.

Thank Bog the UK is leading this, but I couldn't agree more with the Guardian: Obama and Holder are too spineless to pursue this on their own

Who signed the checks and where are the checks used for these
payoffs? If cash was used, do withdrawals match up with the

victim?

20. c'mon Holder! so much evidence stacking up. Since the wee hours of the morning in 2000 when Faux
called the election for GW B*sh, they've been up to no good, bugging, forcing, harming, prying illegally - they belong in jail. And the people England certainly will start demanding their scumbag leader go.

21. I wonder will Coulson talk now that Cameron is
finally sort of saying he made a mistake by hiring him?

It's been a revelation to see how much power the Murdoch Empire had over the British Government.

I wonder how that happened? It can't just be that they were worried about 'bad press' in the tabloids.

And since we have learned that Murdoch's power wasn't restricted to just a few countries, who gave him all this power? Seems to be way more to this story than we know or may ever know.

31. Keith did a really good report on Murdoch on Wednesday night.
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 02:27 AM by Major Hogwash
He had the guy who wrote the book on Murdoch on his program.
His name was Michael Wolff.
The book is called, "The Man Who Owns The News".
Wolff is the editor of a magazine, "Ad Magazine", I think, but I could be wrong about that. I know he used to write for Vanity Fair magazine.

They really ripped Murdoch up one side and down the other on that program over the hacking scandal.
Wolff is somewhat of an expert on Murdoch and he said quite pointedly that Murdoch was telling the truth when he told Parliment this week that he didn't know what every single employee of "News of the World" was up to, since there are 53,000 employees working there.

But, he added, Murdoch was being disingenuous, in a ballet sense, when he said that because when it comes to his newspapers, Murdoch knows exactly what they are up to! That's his life, his passion, he lives it, he breathes it!!
