I'm no Pentagon insider so I can't judge what is really happening in the E ring but I note as a matter of history, a reshuffling in the higher ranks is common in the early stages of a war.

A recurring trait through our military history is that many peacetime generals have risen through the ranks more on the basis of their political and social skills then on the basis of their leadership skills. Then when war arises they must be weeded out, hopefully before a Kasserine Pass type disaster occurs .

We are going to need further information before we can really judge if the current affair is such a weeding, or if it is a purge.

I have never felt anything BUT that this junta will do whatever it takes to stay in power. I simply can't believe that they have any intention of allowing themselves to be at risk of being voted out.

There is NOTHING that this bunch does in public view that is not disguising one secret agenda or another -- NOTHING! The more they alienate parts of their base, the more we SHOULD worry. It means they don't consider the upcoming election to be a particularily relevant factor in their continued control of the government.
