Kerry to launch Internet petition drive on overtime
Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry plans an Internet-based petition drive that is intended to protest the Bush administration's proposal to tighten overtime pay standards.

The Massachusetts senator was using a Monday meeting with labor activists to get the effort under way by putting the first signature on the protest petition on his campaign's Web site.

In remarks prepared for delivery at the event, Kerry warns that as many as 8 million workers, including firefighters and police officers, could lose the ability to collect time-and-a-half pay for time they work beyond 40 hours a week.

3. after watching Lieberman betray the democratic party
and do Karl Rove's dirty work on CNN today, Kerry looks pretty good.

Of course DEAN is #1. Im sure Dean considers Loserman "small potatos", but he may just kick his cottage cheese ass for the fun of it.

4. I'm retired...
but that's a petition I'd be glad to sign. This a very important issue, and taking away OT, and screwing with workers even more makes me furious.

Think about the...the same party that gets their knickers in a wad due to even considering that homosexuals should have exactly the same rights as other Americans, have no problem with making the traditional family they claim they want to preserve vulnerable to poverty, inadequate child care, and inhuman working conditions.

Everything they do is petty, grubby, mean-spirited and greedy.

5. This petition has been out there for days. Hardly a new idea of Kerry's.
Glad he has a conscience, though. Those people who still have jobs after the Kerry-supported NAFTA and WTO losses may be able to collect overtime.

7. Where? Only Dean's is up!
While Kerry is putting PR's out about it, Dean has one already on the web:

10. I just signed Deans petition
This is a good topic to promote the "cheap labor conservative" label. Nothing they can do would make this more obvious.

11. I'll sign 'em all!
Kerry's, Dean's, AFL-CIO's so far--point me to them and I will keep signing. The important thing is not the politics, but that we must flood Congress with names.

12. blondeatlast - Exactly - let's not get in a p*ssing contest
every Dem should have this kind of thing up. I signed Dean's last night along with the Dean link to the AFL-CIO's. I'll sign on to Kerry's.

Now all the Dems need to get on this Visa thing and American high-tech jobs being sent overseas simply for the cheap labor.

13. You got it!
I signed both. This issue is too important to let candidate preference get in the way.

14. Why I thought....
it was Tricky Dicky Gephardt who was the friend of the worker? Why didn't he take this activist approach and launch and Internet petition against the changes in overtime laws?

Oh that would take away from his getting millions of dollars from the same unions he screwed over by not being present to vote against the rules changes on July 10.

You go Kerry! Actions mean everything. Words mean very little. To the best of my knowledge I have not actually heard Gephardt come out and say explicitly that he is AGAINST the rules changes that would deny millions of Americans (MOST of whom are NOT in a union) the right to overtime pay.

Where does Tricky Dicky stand on this issue?
