Employees of U.S.-funded Iraqi TV station reportedly shot dead by U.S. troops
BAGHDAD — U.S. troops shot dead two employees of the U.S.-funded television station Al-Iraqiya today and wounded another in the central city of Samaraa, the station said.
Correspondent Asaad Kadhim and driver Hussein Saleh were killed and cameraman Bassem Kamel was wounded "after American forces opened fire on them while they were performing their duty," the station announced.
"The circumstances of the incident are not known at the present time," it added.
A military spokesman in Baghdad said U.S. officials were looking into the incident.
With the two men's deaths, at least 18 journalists and media workers have been killed during the Iraq war and its aftermath.
