Michele Bachmann Campaign Changes: Chief Ed Rollins, Deputy David Polyansky Leave Top Roles
Source: Huffington Post

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann lost her campaign chief Monday, along with his close deputy, in a campaign shake-up that the Minnesota congresswoman's aides sought to downplay.

Citing health reasons, veteran GOP strategist Ed Rollins stepped down as campaign manager. Bachmann said one of her strategists would take over on an interim basis as Rollins moves to a senior adviser role.

"In less than 50 days and with fewer resources than other campaigns, Ed was the architect that led our campaign to a historic victory in Iowa," Bachmann said in a statement released late Monday, pointing to her win in the Ames Straw Poll last month. "I am grateful for his guidance and leadership, and fortunate to retain his valuable advice even though his health no longer permits him to oversee the day-to-day operations of the campaign."

Speaking to CNN, where he was a contributor before the Bachmann campaign, the 68-year-old Rollins said the front-runners were now former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Gov. Rick Perry. He said Perry's late entry into the race slowed Bachmann's buzz and fundraising.

And the crazy ship is going down. I am still confident that it will be Mittens. Which is the worst case scenario for President Obama, but one he can survive.

I mean...really. I think they were just in it for the money, anyway. No one in their right mind thinks Michelle Bachmann will become the Republican nominee...much less President. These people must have enormous egos.

the clear path is to campaign against the right wing radicalism that has seized the GOP. That's Obama's biggest strength right now.

Rollins to step back from Bachmann role

By MAGGIE HABERMAN | 9/5/11 5:56 PM EDT Updated: 9/5/11 8:25 PM EDT

Ed Rollins is going to be stepping back from day-to-day management of the Michele Bachmann campaign, and moving into a senior advisory role, he said in an interview.

Rollins said the reason for the change is personal — his health and the rigors of a campaign.

"I wish I was 40 years old, but I'm not," he told POLITICO. "I'm 68 years old, I had a stroke a year and a half ago. I'm worn out."

The change is coming just as Bachmann is entering a new phase of the race, searching for the right way forward against the Rick Perry juggernaut, which has sucked away the oxygen since her Ames Straw Poll win.

40. Just because he's clueless...
doesn't mean he's a bad guy. I'm indifferent, really. I know a few decent Republicans that I actually like. And one or two Democrats I wouldn't allow to watch my pet rock. It's just a matter of where we agree and disagree. I try not to buy into the whole "ALL Republicans evil versus ALL Democrats good." It just seems childish and hateful to me.

When it comes to working relationships or personal relationships, you have to take people as they come. If I do more than that, I find that I'm doing some major stereotyping. LOL

33. Romney-Perry? If the Baggers have anything to say about it, Romney will not make it.
I'd rather run against Palin or Bachmann, but either Romney or Perry should not be difficult to beat, either. Together, though.........

Will Romney try to get Perry to take the VP slot, or has he tried that already?
