One sickened by McDonald's fumes dies (10 taken to hospital)
Source: AJC

An 80-year-old woman has died after being sickened by fumes at a McDonald's restaurant in south Georgia.

Pooler Police Chief Mark Revenew says Anne Felton of Ponte Vedra, Fla., died early Thursday. She and her husband were customers at the restaurant. An autopsy will be conducted to determine her cause of death.

Felton was one of 10 taken to the hospital Wednesday after firefighters found two customers unconscious in the bathroom and others struggling to breathe.

Authorities suspect cleaning chemicals in the restroom are to blame, but the cause is still under investigation.

25. Actually that combo is quite common.
In fact it is difficult to find bleach without chlorine.

It's chlorine and ammonia that is the toxic combo.

4. Yep. I've seen it before too.
Workers cleaning restaurant floors with all that grease will often mix using a scouring powder cleaner like Ajax which has chlorine bleach in it. Then they add a little Bo' Peep Ammonia, and 'voila you have a perfect storm of ammonium chloride gas knocking everyone within 10 feet or so of it. Knocked out cold.

- Totally preventable. Poor management practices.

and not rinsing - pee away and you get Chlorine Gas.

Doesn't take much for an 80 year old to be overcome.
