The U.S. ambassador to Colombia commends Colombia as a "model" for the international society during a ceremony commemorating the 10th year anniversary of the September 11 attacks.

U.S. ambassador to Colombia Michael McKinley praised Colombia for its efforts in the global war against terrorism, and also promised that the U.S. will continue supporting Colombia in this fight.

'Colombia has become a model of inspiration for the world for the war against terrorism, without sacrificing the fundamental values, democratic instituttions, and the objectives that we all share,' said McKinley.

Although Colombia has suffered, "the social consequences, and economic and political devastation that terrorism brings. But because of this we have witnessed not only the pain and sadness, but we have seen noble and outstanding leadership in the face of adversity,' added McKinley.

2. Oh man...
He is joking? Colombian soldiers like to kill peasants so they can turn them in as rebels for bounty. It's right wing hell in Colombia.

3. Sure, it's a perfect example. That is, of course, you want a police state run
by death squads.

4. Frigging unbelievable! Thanks for posting!
If you want a model for what our corporate rulers and war profiteers would do to us, if they could get away with it--that is, kill all the trade unionists, human rights workers and other advocates of the poor as well as political dissenters--Colombia is the prime example.

Looks like Ambassador McKinley is going to be as bad as the Bushwhack appointee to Colombia, William Brownfield, who colluded with Colombia's Mob Boss 'President,' Alvaro Uribe, on vast illegal domestic spying (for prep of "hit lists")--Brownfield provided funding, technical assistance and an American go-between to the spying operations who reported directly to Brownfield--and colluded as well on various efforts to coverup Uribe's many crimes and those of his criminal organization. And that's just what is obvious. There are hints and pointers to even worse U.S. crimes in Colombia, possibly by the U.S. military and/or its 'contractors.'

U.S. policy in Colombia is DISGUSTING!

7. Call people "terrorists" and shoot them.
It works for the U.S.A..

Colombia is like our little Latin buddy in a 1950's TV show, two great guns-for-god cowboys shooting down all those nameless, faceless Indians and other assorted and conveniently labeled "bad guys."

In fact, it was Colombia's namesake who brought this fine old tradition of shooting and looting in the name of a vengeful and violent sky deity to the Americas.

Fuck you, Michael McKinley.

9. Academic asked Uribe for help before murder
Academic asked Uribe for help before murder
Friday, 16 September 2011 16:06
James Bargent

Murdered academic Alfredo Correa de Andreis wrote to then President Alvaro Uribe asking for help after he was arrested by the Colombian secret service and accused of collaboration with guerrilla insurgents in 2004.

In the letter, which was published on Friday by online magazine Kien&Ke, Correa vehemently denied charges of “rebellion” and secret collusion with the rebels saying “I am an open book.”

He added that the allegations against him were “not only at odds with the truth but seem completely insane, beyond logic and reason.”

~snip~
Correa was a sociologist specializing in conflict negotiations. Shortly after the DAS released him, he was killed by paramilitary gunmen. On Wednesday, courts sentenced ex-DAS chief Jorge Noguera Cotes to 25 years in prison after he was found guilty of colluding with “Jorge 40's” paramilitary block in his murder.

10. Words Fail Me, Ma'am....
There is absolutely no contact between the words and the reality of the circumstance they purport to describe.
