Daley to lose half his bodyguards
Source: Chicago Sun Times

Weeks before Daley left office, he requested around-the-clock protection by at least five police bodyguards — and at least two vehicles at his disposal — to provide security for himself and his wife in retirement.

After a Secret Service evaluation of Daley’s security needs, Emanuel authorized a six-officer detail and left it untouched even after cutting the security assigned to Ald. Edward M. Burke (14th) in half — from four active police officers to two retired ones.

The Burke and Daley bodyguards became a sore point with Chicago taxpayers, who suggested ending both details in ideas posted on a budget website set up by Emanuel.

It also became a flash point for the Fraternal Order of Police after a two-year hiring slowdown that has left the Chicago Police Department more than 2,300 officers-a-day short of authorized strength.

1. Politcians like to yap about "entitlements" because that evokes the pejorative "sense of
entitlement" more than does say, "social safety safety" or even "something you've paid into all your working life."

Yet, some of these clowns seem to have the biggest senses of entitlement going.

4. So Daley spends years trying to stamp out public access to firearms and defensive means...
And then when he retires he's alotted personal bodyguards and cruisers for his own protection. More of the two-teired system at work. Hypocrite politicians who obviously deserve the priveleges of protection and self defense moreso than the lowly citizens.

10. Agree completely - it's the hypocrisy factor of demanding protection
courtesy of the taxpayers after making sure the average citizen was denied self-protection.

Richard Nixon was the only former President to give up Secret Service protection. If he could pass it up, anybody can.

8. So the mobsters need a crew of Body Guards for life like Big Al
Capone? Maybe they should have done a better job all those years, instead of making enemies.
