(UPDATED) [NC] Senate passes anti-LGBT constitutional amendment; voters to decide in 2012 primaries
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 01:27 AM by Tunkamerica
Source: Raleigh Independent

The Senate vote was 30-16, with 30 needed for passage. A second and final vote was taken immediately. The Governor can't veto a constitutional amendment, but the voters can — SB 514 sets the referendum for the first primary election of 2012, which is scheduled for May.

Click here for the vote: 30 Republicans out of 31 voted yes (Hartsell, an opponent, was absent). Zero Democrats voted yes.

There's a chance the primary could be postponed because of redistricting.

On edit: Added NC to title to clear up confusion.

1. You might want to edit to clarify this is the NC State Senate, not the US Senate. nt

2. huge strategic blunder by NC GOP and gift to Dems
So far they've just done really screwed up things all over the place, but haven't gone so far as to have this special referendum. This will galvanize the base in NC like nothing else.

.... I'm so glad to see the Repug State Senate working to help the jobless in the state and really getting important things done that are gonna help the citizens of NC!

Not.

Wasting time and money doing redundant crap. Just helping themselves to a paycheck while they jack off in la-la bible-land as far as I can see.

Hire/elect a repug and nothing of any importance will get done. That's a given.
