Meg Whitman Named HP CEO
Source: Huffington Post

Hewlett-Packard Co named former eBay Inc Chief Executive Meg Whitman as its new president and CEO, replacing unpopular leader Leo Apotheker at the helm of the largest U.S. technology company.

The move, effective immediately, confirmed earlier reports on the impending change.

"We are at a critical moment and we need renewed leadership to successfully implement our strategy and take advantage of the market opportunities ahead,'' said Ray Lane, who has moved from non-executive chairman to executive chairman of HP's board.

Referring to Apotheker, Lane said the board believes "the job of the HP CEO now requires additional attributes.''

28. I wonder if Carly will give Meg any tips on how she should wear her hair?
I well remember how she expounded on the inappropriateness of Dianne Feinstein's hair that time during her campaign when she thought that the cameras were turned off. I think, "so yesterday" were the words that she used (As if a big ball of cropped barbed wire was the 'in' beauty look of today). Can you imagine the huge egos they both must have? I am sure they will fair equally as well at the helm of a company like HP. Only time will tell if the wisdom of the board will shine through again in their latest selection.

16. She had nothing to do with it, the rise of the WWW did that all by its lonesome.
They could have had a dead pig for a CEO at eBay and eBay would've grown that big all on its own.
Because eBay was the first of its kind on the WorldWideWeb.
Several books on the subject have all concluded that.

21. That dead pig of yours must have been with AOL...
who also realized enormous growth with the WWW.

Your ideology is blocking your vision, for she has received numerous awards and accolades for her work at eBay. Fortune Magazine, the Harvard Business Review, and the Financial Times are among those judged her as one of the top five executives of the decade.

Evidently, she didn't believe in the glass ceiling theory and since she couldn't see it, she was able to discover that it did not exist.

17. So will this "top notch executive" grow HP by raising HP products' prices through the roof?
Edited on Thu Sep-22-11 06:25 PM by brentspeak
The way she "grew" eBay merely by extracting fees from eBay sellers by raising their seller fees at least six separate times?
