Senator: Consider military action against Pakistan
Source: AP/Yahoo

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee said Sunday that the U.S. should consider military action against Pakistan if it continues to support terrorist attacks against American troops in Afghanistan.

"The sovereign nation of Pakistan is engaging in hostile acts against the United States and our ally Afghanistan that must cease, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina told "Fox News Sunday."

He said if experts decided that the U.S. needs to "elevate its response," he was confident there would be strong bipartisan support in Congress for such action.

Graham did not call for military action but said "all options" should be considered. He said assistance to Pakistan should be reconfigured and that the U.S. should no longer designate an amount of aid for Pakistan but have a more "transactional relationship" with the country.

I intensely dislike Lindsey Graham, but in this instance, he is dead on.

Pakistan has been exporting violence for too long and must be defanged for good.

9. I think it's all down to Bad Headline Writing.
Graham didn't say MILITARY action, when you dig deep.

He wants to cut off their FMS and aid--all those grants, all that training, all those loans we never expect to be paid back, all that military equipment and weaponry....

They want spare parts for all the shit we've sold them? They'll have to start PAYING. No more Pakistani officers at our military academies, War Colleges and Mil-Pol Grad Schools--fuck 'em. They can train their own goddamned pilots. Give their slots to someone helpful.

No more massive cash subsidies to smile at us on one hand, and fuck us on the other.

That's where he was going, I think. The article is just written in a mishmash fashion and left us (me included) with a wrong impression.

5. "Consider" that a BAD idea. MILITARY action?
I must say, I don't quite "get" the disconnect between the subject line and the sentence that says
"Graham did not call for military action but said "all options" should be considered."

Bad headline writing, I guess? Graham is usually not that blunt.

Those crazy bastards have a few nukes, and the ISI has an agenda that is not always consonant with that of the Pakistani central government.

I don't argue that they shouldn't be LEANED on, but when people start using the terms "military action" and "Pakistan" so close together, it's a matter of concern, given recent propensities towards preemtive actions. Quick in-n-outs like the Osama business are one thing, "corrective action" to discourage antisocial behaviors are justified, too-- but "military action" connotes something a bit more intimate to me--I hope I am reading too much into it, frankly.

I absolutely agree with the bit about foreign aid--we give those bastards WAY TOO MUCH in terms of Foreign Military Sales, loans, grants, etc--they need to pony up the dough for all those spare parts they might nee:

He said assistance to Pakistan should be reconfigured and that the U.S. should no longer designate an amount of aid for Pakistan but have a more "transactional relationship" with the country.

Edited on Mon Sep-26-11 12:38 AM by Angry Dragon
How many civilians has the US killed in Pakistan??
How many people has the CIA run down or killed on the streets of Pakistan??

edit: How many terrorists have we created by killing innocent civilians??

I know if someone was shooting missiles at me I would not worry too much about crossing any border to kill the attackers
Just perhaps we should just leave the region and let these people get on with their lives and let them sort it out........ just a thought

We are not building friends and winning enemies with our actions. All we need is yet another country to go to war with.

15. It seems hard to keep the GOP from getting us all killed.
Is that what Dems do all day? Spend every waking our talking their counterparts out of mass suicide? Doesn't seem to be working out very well. Maybe shock collars or a water spray bottle? Something new is needed. Newspaper to the nose?

And not just another two week callup to hide safely in the Green Zone so he can get another campaign medal and go back home.

18. We're currently fighting six wars. Pakistan is a nation of 187 million people with a median age of
just over 21 years. By the way, Pakistan also has nukes. We'd better be tucking our penises back in our drawers lest we suffer a major defeat.

Why don't we just send GI Lindsey, GI Joe LIEberman and Maverick John McCain over there to Pakistan on a one way ticket, to straighten that shit out?

24. So...
Edited on Mon Sep-26-11 08:38 AM by Javaman
while I'm not Obama's biggest supporter, I will vote for him. Why?

Because, while I'm not currently thrilled with the quasi-fascism in this nation, I'm no fan of full on 1984 choco-ration victory gin fascism that we would get with a repuke corporate sock puppet.

I know, lessrt of two evils. I could vote third party, blah blah blah.

But let me clue you all in on something, I live in Texas, Austin to be exact and I know too well the awesome power of teh stupid my illustrious governor is capable of achieving with the help of the fascist arm of the right wing corporate religo shock troops.

he appears to be their favorite toy boy for the moment. the walking air bag with the 400 dollar haircut would allow the various super rich corporate powers that be to write any and all bills that would turn our nations social programs and services into either money making schemes or a shell of what they once were. On top of that, you can guarantee the poverty rate will sky rocket and the health rate would drop through the floor.

How do I know this? I'm living it in Texas.

25. Killing Pakistani people with drone attacks
is not military action? Why don't you just go ahead and nuke them. You know you wanna do it. And then nuke Iran and Syria and on and on and on.

26. Pakistan?
They're cagey & clever. They figured out the right way to keep America from invading them is to get nukes. Then they can use the nukes for protection, and if the USA doesn't keep paying them off, sell nuke plans & parts to other countries so those countries can keep America from invading.
