'CIA building' attacked in Kabul

Armed men have attacked a US compound in Kabul that is believed to include a major CIA office for Afghanistan, according to news reports and official sources.

The Central Intelligence Agency declined to comment but a US government source acknowledged the building targeted in Sunday's attack, considered part of the US embassy compound in Kabul, likely contained CIA offices.

The BBC reported gunfire and a blast were heard from the compound in the capital.

It said a US official confirmed there was an attack on a facility previously known as the Ariana hotel.

5. U.S. citizen killed in attack on Kabul CIA office

A nighttime attack on a CIA office in Kabul was perpetrated by an Afghan employee who shot dead an American citizen and wounded another before being killed, officials said Monday.

The assault Sunday evening was the third high-profile attack in the past two weeks in the Afghan capital.

"There was a shooting incident at an annex of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul last night involving an Afghan employee, who was killed," the U.S. Embassy said in a statement Monday. "The motivation for the attack is still under investigation. One U.S.¬ citizen was killed in the attack and another wounded."
