Rick Perry says his remarks on immigration were ‘inappropriate’
Source: The Washington Post

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, facing a conservative backlash over his labeling as heartless those who oppose his state law giving college tuition breaks to the children of illegal immigrants, said Wednesday that the tone of his remarks was “inappropriate.”

In an on-camera interview with Newsmax.com, a conservative media outlet, Perry said he had been “over-passionate” in his answer to a question about the law during last week’s GOP presidential candidates debate.

“I probably chose a poor word to explain that,” Perry said in the interview. “For people who don’t want their state to be giving tuition to illegal aliens, illegal immigrants in this country, that’s their call, and I respect that.”

Although he walked back his remarks, Perry stood by the legislation and noted that it passed in 2001 with the support of all but four legislators in Texas.

1. Well, sure Perry, but it's clear you're not ready for primetime. Don't continue to waste time.

19. Already doing the flip-flop dance, heh? Problem for
righties is that no one can pass their wing purity test. If the candidate has any history of taking a reasonable stance on even one issue, or God forbid proof of compromise with the enemy (that would be ANYONE who doesn't share their incredibly rigid ideology), he/she is toast. The nuttier, more extreme, more combative, the more the righties like em. Therefore, while they're currently begging Christie to run, when they start getting wind of some of the comments he's made, they'll reject him too.

23. Rick Perry is a pander bear

pander bear:
A candidate running for political office who shamelessly attempts to lure in votes by making
patronizing and empty concessions and shows of support for particular special interests.

24. Perry is an awesome liberal
I wish he would run as a democrat on immigration, he speaks better on it than any Dem I've heard. He should seriously consider leaving the dark side and coming into the light.

27. Perry WAS a Democrat
Rick Perry WAS a Democrat before he joined hundreds of other southern and Texas Dixiecrats in turning his coat and becoming a Republican.

I don't miss him. He was (and still is) a right-wing reactionary and he is even further to the right than Gee Dubya Bush was when he was governor.

At this point I'm convinced that even the great J#hov@h Himself with the full angelic host to back Him up could descend from the top of Mount Bonnell and turn Rick Perry from his Texas-Republican reactionary, crony-capitalist politics.

31. Maybe not so much any more-"A new breed of openly Compassionless Conservatives has come to the fore"
The tea party has changed the rules about having to fake compassion. Their new motto: "Proud to be heartless."
