Republicans block popular piece of Obama jobs bill

WASHINGTON | Thu Oct 20, 2011 10:25pm EDT
(Reuters) - Senate Republicans blocked a popular piece of President Barack Obama's stimulus plan -- one to raise
taxes on millionaires to create or protect 400,000 jobs for teachers and firefighters.

The vote was 50-50 on Thursday evening, 10 short of the 60 votes needed to clear a Republican procedural roadblock.

The action came shortly before Democrats were expected to block a Republican bid to stimulate the economy by repealing
a pending 3 percent business withholding tax.

The opposing positions underscored the difficulty of finding common ground on job creation, which is certain to be a key
issue in the presidential and congressional elections in November 2012.

Senate republicans are no good pieces of shit and are betting that by making Americans
hurt they will win the White House back. AND THEY HAVE NO FUCKING SHAME AT ALL.

1. The filibuster will be removed the next time the Rs control the House, Senate and White House
There is no way they would ever tolerate the obstruction they have perpetrated since January 2009.

4. if the repugs didn't own the media* and had the $ .....
.... they should get beaten by 20 points in every election.

Teachers, fireman, cops, students, gays, women, latinos, progressives, seniors, the poor, labor, the middle class, and ....
how the hell can they ever win an election (except for Oklahoma, Utah, and Idaho)?

* and the voting machines too

3. Why do Republicans hate Teachers, Firefighters and Cops?
So I hope that after we had a few days to talk about why Republicans killed this bill, that Senator Reid will introduce the newest carve out of the American Jobs ACT.

16. Their hatred of him is greater than their love of country.
Judging from their behavior over the past few decades, I'd say they are mildly annoyed with Obama.

27. A bill only can only be signed into a law by the President ...
.... if it is passed by congress. The bill was dead after it failed to get the needed 60 votes in the senate because
the republicans had promised to filibuster it.

22. Doubt any of this will matter...
Most Americans don't pay any attention to politics except for what they might see on the evening news...And the media has been acting as if there is justification for the GOP to block everything Obama tries to do. By the time people really start paying attention there will only be month to go &unemployment will be over 10 percent. Plus, Republicans know Americans blame the POTUS for bad economy regardless.

I hope beyond anything my perception of the American people is wrong...We will see.

29. This bill would have failed without the filibuster...
A couple of the Democrats that voted in favor of cloture already said they'd have voted against the final bill. Conservadems like Joe Manchin are the culprit.

Same thing was true with the entire jobs bill before it was broken in parts. It didn't have enough votes for final passage because some of the Democrats who voted for cloture had already said they would vote against the final bill.

30. remember when the stimulus passed
and economists like krugman, stiglitz said we needed a massive stimulus to kick the economy into gear. Instead, what passed wasn't enough. These repugs and dinos are sociopaths, and yes, they could care less if the plebes are going down or if our infrastructure crumbles as long as they gain power and their friends have a field day at our expense. And when I say "friends", I'm talking about any foreign corporations that wants a piece of the action.

Our government has become one corrupt, greedfest sick puppy. I'd say some prostitutes have more honor and honesty than most of our congresscritters.
