96-year-old Dorothy Cooper finally gets ID to vote
Edited on Fri Oct-21-11 06:36 PM by d_r
Source: Chattanooga Times Free Press

Dorothy Cooper, 96, clutched her new voter ID in an envelope Thursday afternoon and said, “I can rest my mind.”

“When you’re as old as I am, you don’t need all of this on you,” Cooper said while sitting in the parking lot of the state Driver Service Center in Red Bank, where she went to get the identification card. “I went to enough trouble.”

Now she can go to the polls in March rather than voting absentee, which is what she decided she might have to do after being denied a photo ID earlier this month.

A new state law requires that everyone show a photo ID to cast a ballot.

4. That's Wonderful News...Truly. But for every Dorothy Cooper there are Many More who will be denied
their right to vote because they were not part of a media campaign.

My Great Aunt who just turned 100 is spry as a fox and is update on ALL the NEWS and is a Democrat...is now in nursing home. She doesn't have drivers liscense (eyesight gone) and if that's what Connecticut puts in place she will not be able to vote there.

The RIGHT WING ...KOCH, HERITAGE and CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, etc. (you know the criminals) are pushing this through in State Legislations all across America after they managed to get their people in for the 2010 Election where we Dems lost so many seats.

So...Dorothy is GOOD TO GO...but there are Thousands and More of Elderly who will be denied "right to vote" because they aren't Media Causes.

What do we do about all of them?

14. As you can probably tell
I live in Connecticut and we've been required to show a photo ID for many years in order to vote.

It never bothered me, because I never really thought about it.

they should start with a "get your voter ID" project.

6. Good for her!
She needed photo ID a long time ago. Heaven knows how she's been able to get Social Security or Medicare without it.

Now she can vote, to help ensure that SS and Medicare remains available. :patriot:

12. Don't celebrate, this is a failure not a success
Oh, I give her credit for seeing this through.

But weeks to get an id for an American Citizen who already votes?

And one of the reasons she got it is because she was going to be denied the right to vote and it made the news.

Score 1 for those who hate democracy --because if a lot of voters have to go through what she went through, there will be a lot less of them.

13. Go Dorothy Go!
...now, I hope that several persons will go with her...take a nice, comfy chair for her...water...snacks...whatever it takes to keep her comfy in the elements...and be prepared for a whole lot of stuff going on at the polling locations.

Bravo Dorothy!

17. Congratulations, Ms. Cooper. Shameful that you were hassled.
Born in 1915. My, my. That is a lot of living and a lot of things to have seen come to pass.

Blessings.
