Occupy Wall Street is Getting Bathrooms
Source: Village Voice

One of the most contentious issues that's affected Occupy Wall Street's relationship with the surrounding community has been bathrooms. At multiple Community Board 1 meetings, downtown residents have complained that OWS' lack of facilities has lead to some pretty negative consequences, the grossest being some occupiers' using people's doorsteps as impromptu bathrooms.

Now, the neighborhood has scored a bit of a coup coming on the heels of the NYPD's recent removal of hated FiDi barricades: Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, State Senator Daniel Squadron, and Councilwoman Margaret Chin have announced that OWS is getting three offsite bathrooms.

The release reads in part:

"OWS states that it has secured access to a loading dock area connected to 52 Broadway and has obtained three portable bathrooms to install there, with a trained security guard 24-hours-a-day. We appreciate their attention to this issue.

"We reiterate our call on the City to take a 'zero-tolerance' approach to public urination and other such behavior, and to enforce laws prohibiting excessive noise.

Shit in the churchyard and piss on the walls. :(

Doesn't follow that the protesters do it but if they can occupy the churchyard and pavement then anyone can.

2. This is awesome news
I think the stories of human waste on doorsteps are greatly exaggerated and more related to it being a huge city in general than to OWS in particular. In fact, there is a McDs less than a block away from Zuccotti open 24/7 that lets us use the bathrooms without even buying anything (many thanks to the franchise owner!!).

However, this is such good news. It isn't fair to the Mcd's staff having to clean the bathroom probably 3 times more often than usual, and getting porta potties was always like this fantasy vision for the OWSers.

Now they got them. AWESOME!!

10. it's mc donalds' place in the universe to supply clean
bathrooms, imho. i usually grab a pop or something, but feel no guilt about just using the can. they get their way, they changed the world. the least they can do is keep the can clean.
in chicago, they are the one chain that never have any locks or bs in any neighborhood.
credit where credit is due. thanks for nice bathrooms mickey.

3. True story about fundie-baggers I know and their single one complaint about OWS
Wanna know which on? Brace yourselves... that the people at the OWS are not taking showers . :wow:

Isn't that grand? That comment makes me roll my eyes because of how vapid (trying really hard to keep the post PG) or primal they truly are. Of course, they won't comment on the positive aspects of what OWS has done for America… maybe because it is beneficial to them? Sure… who's the parasite now.:freak:

4. They do take showers.. There are host people and many of the OWS people do live in the city and can
go home to shower if they need to.

5. I know.
I wanted to tell the teabaggers but it would simply be a waste of my O2. If they are choosing to be ignorant let FauxNews keep them like that.

Too bad that other citizens are sacrifycing for such scum.
