US urges that Egypt's elections go forward
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON Nov 21 (Reuters) - The United States urged Egypt to go ahead with elections despite an upsurge in violence on Monday and urged restraint on all sides.

The death toll had risen to 33 as police in Cairo fought protesters demanding an end to army rule in the worst violence since the uprising that ousted President Hosni Mubarak.

White House spokesman Jay Carney called for restraint on all sides and added, "The United States continues to believe that these tragic events should not stand in the way of elections."

9. As long as we continue to send them millions in military aid then we do have every right
to make our views known on this.

10. That is where we have leverage! Threaten to cut their aid...

the problem is that the MIC probably sees this as an opportunity to oppress the revolutionary forces as example to those in the US and worldwide. The fear is always of socialism, forget the Muslim terrorist bullshit.

5. 32 Egyptians Killed, 1,750 Injured in Protests Against Military Rule
http://www.democracynow.org/seo/2011/11/21/tahrir_square_under_attack_32_egyptians

If their methods were "no worse" there would be 0 dead and less than 20 injuries, adjusting for population.

When one's attempts to excuse this administration at any cost have reached the point of bean counting peaceful American citizens being assaulted with deadly force by their own government, that one seriously needs to consider getting off the board and growing a damn moral compass.

8. I don't appreciate false equlivency that diminishes the horrific nature of certain regimes.
We got it good and we have the audacity to cry and moan and say we're being 'treated the same.' I believe it's some kind of twisted American exceptionalism, as not just the worst places have it bad, we have it bad too!

11. The current issue isn't the elections
its who gets to write the new constitution.

At present those are being chosen by the military and as such are seen to be steering a situation whereby the new constitution will be biased towards them.
